TV suddenly went off and a thick white, square shaped border appeared in middle of black wide screen... and nothing else....The tv is about 2 years old and never had a problem with it before...
Have turned off and on.. checked Virgin satellite box etc.. but nothing has worked!!

1.You may have the magnet of a speaker too close to the TV.
2.Turn off other electrical devices in the house one at a time.
3.Faulty cable.

If the screen split is exactly 50/50 top/bottom You are not getting SU or Scan Upper drive.
These are lovely set to work on.
Most likely is SU board itself - Not repairable just to be replaced.
Sorry I work in the UK so I can only guide that the UK part is around £30
SU may have been damaged by failure if the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) but is 9 years only had 2 screens damage the SU board.
There are several setups to do after fitting a PDP. If you don't have the service data - Do not risk it, Reduced life of the Panel and a safety risk.

That measurement, is measured on the DIAGONAL corner, to corner distance. It's NOT the actual measured width of the Viewing Screen. IT is only 1028mm Wide, but from corner to corner it's going to be..1070mm or 42 inches
