SOURCE: i get the following error

In many cases this error has been generated by faulty RAM memory. So if you have just upgraded your computer with some new memory and you started getting this error then would remove them and see if the error goes away. If it does then send the memory back and get a refund!

In Windows XP Service Pack 2 Microsoft introduced Data execution prevention (DEP), a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help protect against malicious code exploits. In Windows XP SP2, DEP is enforced by both hardware and software.

Some software/application behaviours are incompatible with DEP - data execution prevention.

/NOEXECUTE

This option is only available on 32-bit versions of Windows when running on processors supporting no-execute protection. It enables no-execute protection (also known as Data Execution Protection - DEP), which results in the Memory Manager marking pages containing data as no-execute so that they cannot be executed as code. This can be useful for preventing malicious code from exploiting buffer overflow bugs with unexpected program input in order to execute arbitrary code. No-execute protection is always enabled on 64-bit versions of Windows on processors that support no-execute protection.

There are several options you can specify with this switch:

/NOEXECUTE=OPTIN Enables DEP for core system images and those specified in the DEP configuration dialog.

/NOEXECUTE=OPTOUT Enables DEP for all images except those specified in the DEP configuration dialog.

/NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSON Enables DEP on all images.

/NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF Disables DEP. (This setting doesn't provide any DEP coverage for any part of the system, regardless of hardware DEP support. The processor doesn't run in Physical Address Extension (PAE) mode unless the /PAE option is present in the boot.ini file.)

This error also seen when people have updated drivers for their graphics card. If this happens just roll back your drivers. Also keep an eye on the vendors website to see if they have an update/patch available or coming soon.

Silen hill 4 The room won't open in Windows 7 Professional 64bit? I Don't get any errors at all. i am goign to look at the event Viewer. but it saysWindows cannot access the specified device, path, or...

The Room does run on Windows 7 64-bit.

I just played a pirate copy of The Room on mine, to make sure a purchase of the proper boxed game is not an unplayable waste.

It worked fine after a minor adjustment to setup.reg and so should the real DVD, if that is what you are using. My version of Windows 7 does not even, to the best of my knowledge, come with the virtual XP.

These are the instructions I followed:

"Hey world's people, if your pc is say: ''Game not installed correct'', Thats why:

-You're using a Windows Vista 64 bit or Seven 64bit
-So just follow the following steps:

1. Click in the setup and install.

2. After setup is over, open Setup.reg with notepad,

3.Replace the line [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Konami\SILENT HILL 4\1.00.000] with [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Konami\SILENT HILL 4\1.00.000]

4.Save

5.Double click the setup.reg file again and click YES!
6.Enjoy!!"

I have windows 7 and trying to install my solitaire games cd. It saids it is not compatible, Is there any way to overside this?

A lot of your older games, especially those designed for Win 95, 98, 2000 will not work on current generations of Windows. What you could try to do is run emulation software to emulate one of these environments. The only drawback to this is that not only will you need the emulator (which is usually fairly cheap), you would also need a legitimate older copy of windows to install.

Your only other real option would be to browse ebay and maybe find an older comp that someones just looking to get rid of. Depending on your level of expertise setting up the rarely used emu software this may actually be a quicker and less stressful route.

Other than that, I can't really think of any other options you would have other than the Windows XP mode if your version of Win 7 is fortunate enough to be Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise. If you are lucky enough to have one of those than this link should put you in a good direction.
