Dear Sirs,
This is a copy of the email sent to Dension support 2nd April which was acknowledged immeadiately but no advice received so far. Can you help please.
RE - 2007 Audi A4 cabriolet / 30GB ipod compatibility
I understand Dension provide the necessary docking system to Audi to play ipods, so I am assuming my vehicle supplied new last year (June 2007) with a factory fitted docking system is in fact your docking system, so I am coming to you hoping you can throw some light on a problem I am having with playlists that confounds both Audi and Apple.
The problem does not occur when accessing playlists via the ipod itself nor when docked into a Bose portable sound dock nor when plugged into a Sony head unit with a factory fitted lead for the ipod.
Again it behaves perfectly when tested on other head units on display at a local car audio supplier (Halfords).
Therefore I think it can safely be assumed that the problem does not lie in the ipod itself.
So far I have tried four ipods in the car docking system only one held the playlist selected, that was a 40GB ipod photo. An older version of ipod which I think is significant.
When my 30GB Classic Video, purchased new in September 2007, is inserted and play list 3 is selected it plays something then the light for playlist four is highlighted on the radio display
I do not recognise which playlist the piece it always plays is from or called, as it is classical music, but certainly has nothing to do with playlist four which is in fact a series of talks. Another problem is that the talks listed for playlist four cannot be accessed by selecting playlist four originally on the head unit.
When inserting another 30GB Classic Video ipod or an 8GB Nano video, similar problems occur but this time different playlists are played and jumped to.
I have tried my 30GB Classic Video ipod in other brand new Audi vehicles in the dealers showroom and the problem repeats itself, that is to say the same playlist selection and jumping problem occurs.
Your web site refers to firmware updates, I understand that has something to do with the head unit itself. If this is where the problem lies how is it corrected?
Also as the head unit does not display the track playing details, are Audi fitting out of date equipment not compatible with the very latest ipods, were maybe BMW does.
I hope this is a not too laboured description of the problem and you are able to help.
Yours faithfully,
Roy M. Glover
