JVC Everio HD3 - video format problem for MAC

I have recently purchased a JVC Everio HD3 and am having great dificulties getting the video footage to run on my intel iMac running Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger.

Footage will not open in quicktime V.7.2 or v 7.4 - even though i have added the plug-in that comes with the Camera .

Eventually i need to edit the video in Final Cut Pro 6 - i have tried linking the camera up with Firewire direct to this program and it does not connect to capture the footage.

HELP - i'm tearing my hair out trying to figure it out!!

Many thanks

Same camera, same problem. The HD3 is not regognized by Final Cut via Firewire - and the files I transfer via USB are not readable by any program. I installed the Quicktime-upgrade and the actual fix, but nothing happens.

Hi Guest,

unfortunately this is not the solution. After installing this Quicktime-Update (for 19,90 Euro) Quicktime can play those .tod-files, but Final Cut Express can not. Maybe Final Cut Pro is able to read them, but I don´t have the money to buy that expensive program. But there is another free format-exchange program available that codes the Quicktime-files into Apple 1920i intermedia-files that are recognized by Final Cut Express. But they still don´t run from scratch, you first have to render them once more.
I gave the HD3 Everio back and got a HV30 from Canon now. Everything´s fine now. JVC definetely has lost. For ever.

I have an apple laptop, how do I transfer from my camcorder to a dvd on my apple.

You do not need drivers to get the footage from tape to a Mac. You do require a firewire cable and use iMovie or Final Cut to capture.

Can't transfer videos from JVC Everio camcorder onto my MAC

Share: How to import .tod files from JVC Everio HDD Camcorder to iMovie?

Requirements: iMovie (Part of the iLife 08 package)

Step 1: Connect the Everio to the Mac (Via USB)
Make sure you are powering the Everio from the mains before connecting your JVC Everio Camcorder.

Step 2: Playback on PC
Select “Playback on PC” on the Everio, once connected you will see the Everio HDD symbol appear on the desktop. The video files on the Everio are stored in the SD Folder/PRG***/MOV***.MOD.

Step 3: Open iMovie
Once you open iMovie, you will see that it recognizes the Everio straight away and will attempt to import your video.

You are now ready to use iMovie to edit your video files.

If need change .tod files to common video formats like mov, mp4, m4v, mpg, mpeg, dv, flv, avi, wmv, 3gp, mkv, mp3, aac, wma, m4a, etc. Mod Tod Video Converter for Mac is a good choice. The program can also convert mod tod to ipod, mod tod to iphone, tod to apple tv, tod to blackberry and more devices!

JVC Everio GZ-HD3 Flash Media Camcorder

If you plug in the USB cable from the camera to a Windows XP machine, the Everio disk looks like a USB disk drive, and I can copy the files over using Windows Explorer. In order to convert them to MPG files, we are using Cyberlink PowerDirector5 NE Express, since the camera produces TOD files, which need to be converted to MPG. We are using MAGIX as the video editor after the conversion from TOD to MPG.
