In most cases you can if you can get to the mechanism. There is a long threaded shaft and it may has a square of hexagonal head to it. Better to just get it fixed. Link just for interest.

Its Adobe Flash player, just visit the adobe.co.uk and download flash player update and it will "fix" the damaged file, it doesnt harm your computer having it on there and its not flagged as malware or spyware.
when you've downloaded the updated flash player check your downloaded programs.

Go the website that asked you to install this activeX control and reinstall the ActiveX. If this does not fix the issue, go to Microsoft.com and search for the particular ActiveX and download and reinstall it that way.

This typically happens following an upgrade or 'fix' for Internet Explorer.

If the error also mentions "Desktop.htt". . .

• Search for and delete all copies of "Desktop .htt"
• RightClick your desktop and click Refresh
• Then go back and re-enable Active Desktop. If that fails you may need to restart the computer and try again.
• Windows will automatically create a new Desktop.htt file. You may need to reselect any associated backgrounds, etc.
