Power cuts out after about 5 seconds

Any power or timed setting, turn on, runs about 5 secs and shuts off completely including the clock. Message says "power went off during cooking" but it did not. Note there are light flickers in the display as the timer counts down. Will not restore until clock is reset. Then it happens all over again.

My microwave started a couple of day ago to garble the display and tell you to set the clock after coming on 1 or 2 seconds. Help will be appreciated. Manufactured date Feb. 2005

    What is a "mains"?

Hi... have a 2.5 year old GE JVM1850DM4CC and had the same issue. Tried unplugging and did not help. Tried resetting the main breaker, did not help. Is there an internal fuse or something cheap and easy to try and replace? Thank you.

I unplugged the power for about 8 hours. I work 3rd shift so I unplugged it while I was getting my nights sleep during the day. Tried setting the clock and heat a cup of water. It ran 2 seconds and then the display went to all characters and finally back to please press the clock button, just as it did before. Other functions like the timer will work fine and the clock stays online until the microwave is set to heat. Any other possible solutions?

I cannot get the GE microwave clock to set! Help?

To set the clock on most GE microwaves:
1 With the microwave door closed, press CLOCK.
2 Touch number pads that reflect the time of day (1:45 would be 1, 4, 5).
3 On some newer models, indicate AM or PM for morning or evening.
4 Press CLOCK or START to lock in the time.
If you prefer not to display the time:
Disconnect the power for 30 seconds. After restoring power, do not set the clock. If your model has an ON/OFF clock display, you can choose not to have the time displayed. To choose this option, press the 0 pad for about three seconds. To Turn the display back on, press the 0 again.

GE Spacemaker XL 1800 turns on for 1 second and then resets. The display shows PRESS CLOCK.

Sounds like your losing power, have you tried it on a completely Different circuit??? Either that or bad fuse or connections inside of microwave.

There is an internal fuse which is located underneath the side\top shell. If you have no lights or control panel, this is the most likely cause. This is not difficult to replace.

Timer Shuts off after 5 seconds

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Is it 5 seconds or 5 minutes? The difference coulsd be important, but either could indicate a bad magnetron.

Let us know if the hard reset doen't fix it.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

Microwave shuts off after 2-5seconds

The problem is most likely the magtube, it takes aprox 3 sec for the tube to energize and then it kills the microwave. If you drop the control panel away and start the microwave 90% of the time it will cook fine.
