Disk tray is not spinning

I insert a disk into my xbox360 and it doesnt spin the disk so it doesnt read it and says open tray on the dashboard

The way to fix this is to open the disk tray and blow inside for about thirty seconds getting the dust out of the way of the laser also blow across the disc tray and the surface of the disk. Then keep closing and opening the tray and it will start to read hopefully. if this does not work go out and buy a disc cleaner. it looks like a disc with sponges on it and when you insert it into the console it cleans the inside for you. My xbox disc drive keeps opening and closeing and wont let me play games
you will need to open this drive and clean the drive belt, or the tracks the tray use as they may be gummed up and dirty.
Open tray error is common, even more so on Samsung drives.

To fix this you usually really need to open your xbox360 so you can get to the disk drive so you can open it for a self-service. BUT first try to fix it with a laser cleaning kit, they don't cost much to purchase and you can get them from most electronic shops and also eBay.

If a cleaning kit did not work, then the problem may be your tracks, the disk spin head or the belt that moves the tray (drive belt).

Once you have your xbox360 opened (lots of good video guides on YouTube on how to open the xbox360) you will have to open your disk drive.

When its open, clean the left and right tracks, they can get gummed up with dust, and even tar if the unit is from a smokers home, when the tracks are dirty, it can stop the tray going in all the way then games don't play. Also if the spin head is dirty (the plate the disk sits on to spin the disk) then it does not grip the disk fully and thus does not spin at full speed, giving you read error. Finally the belt inside the drive can be removed and can be boiled in water for a minute or to, this cleans it and brings it back to its original shape, this helps the belt regain lost grip and can also fix this error your having, but belt problems are more for Samsung drives.

You should use rubbing alcohol to clean the internal components of your drive without causing any damage, you could even clean the laser yourself using a high quality kitchen roll sheet or micro fiber cloth, with rubbing alcohol and gently pass it over the lens to clean it. Once you have done all this, close everything back up and see if the problem is gone.

If your still having problems then chances are you need a new laser for your drive.

Xbox 360: disk drive
try reseting the system in the system settings this, is sometimes caused by an update not downloading and or installing correctly. once you reset to default, try updating  the system on xbox live. if this continues you might have a drive issue. good luck....

One day i was playing halo 3 and my disk drive starting making wierd, grinding noises and stopped then after the noise stopped my disk would stop spinning and now eveytime i try to read my disk my motor...
This hard disk is a easy fix, You can buy a new one for the fraction of the cost, All you have to do is slip this off the unit and apply an new or even a used hard drive. Xbox 360 disk spins while ejecting
i had this same problem, so i figured, "what the hell?" i might as well open the dvd drive up and clean it out. so i looked for how to video for taking apart my 360 and opening the dvd drive on you tube( this voids your warantee of course) and i cleaned all the dust out with compressed air and swabs dipped in alchohol. this worked for me so i hope it works for you.
