It's a common problem when you do a OS upgrade, Is that the only device in Device Manager that isn't working? Any Unknown Devices? You didn't supply the Model of Toshiba, or the original OS? Download and save the Card Reader driver for Win 7, Change the Compatibility of the driver and install.
first things first.. if it's always freezing than it has some kind of internal damage. it could be as easy as replacing the hard drive or cd-rom, or maybe the disc your using is bad.
I assure that you have the data cable problem or in another case you have the problem of hard disk with bad sector problem. For further information contact me back.
You normally get recovery cd with your laptop. ok you can use a win xp cd from friends or relatives and use the serials from your laptop to install the os.
You have to go to BIOS setup, find HDD setup, and change the value to the other one (there are only two possibilities). That will fix your problem. The problem is caused by the fact that the lap top was designed for vista, not XP. and the lap top contains SATA HDD. when installing XP pre-installation doesn't have SATA drivers, so your OS can not see the HDD. Change it in BIOS, and you trouble is gone
Sorry but you'll have to hunt down a new Win Me CD as your code should still work with Me but not with other Windows tittles. It is possible to install XP but u will have to buy a new CD and license code which might be hard given everything is Vista now.
Best advice I can give is to either check e-bay or use a torrent site to get back Win Me. I like BT Torrent, ISO hunt or Mini Nova the best using BitTorrent or BitLord as clients to download. Best of luck
