Hi
I would suspect this to be the lower Y Buffer board, with the back removed of the set it is on the far left hand side( lower ) and coonects via ribbons to the screen, get the part number off the board and Google or Ebay for a replacement.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: BOTTOM HALF OF SCREEN GOES BLACK R A MINUTE OR SO

remove the back of the tv.disconnect and reconnect the ribbon cables into your buffer pcb.if this does not correct the problem replace the buffer pcb in that location where the screen is going black.you also could have
a defective panel if the buffer pcb does not correct your problem.

SOURCE: Bottom half of the screen goes black frequently.

You can start here: http://www.support.philips.com/support/catalog/catalog.jsp;jsessionid=87CE21B6A8264B83B8D00501ADACA8BF.app107-drp1?_dyncharset=UTF-8&country=&categoryid=FLAT_TV_CA_US_CARE&userLanguage=en&navCount=1&groupId=TV_GR_US_CARE&catalogType=&navAction=push&userCountry=us&title=Flat+TV+(plasma%2C+LCD)

Enter the exact Model Numbere in the search text field.

First verify the exact Model Number of your TV. Mine is a 42PF7220A/37.

go to:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=42PF7220A/37&scy=us&slg=en

On this page I found listed under "Software2.gif & drivers" the Firmware Upgrade Software 42PF7220A/37 v1.5.0.0

I downloaded the compressed file and extracted it to a USB Flash Drive2.gif.
After you extract the file you will have 2 files...."autorun.upg" and a "readme.txt".
Print out the readme file the delete it off the USB Flash Drive2.gif
Make sure the USB Flash Drive2.gif has only one file on it (autorun.upg)

Make sure the TV is turned off.
Put the USB Flash Drive in any of the USB ports on the TV.
Turn the TV power on with the Power Button on the righthand side of the TV.
The TV will display an Update screen.
Let the TV run through all 3 processes.
Turn the TV off and remove the USB Flash Drive.
Power the TV back up.
Hopefully the Updates fixed the problem.....

My sinotex 42inch stl-43vn86d picture flickering jumping top half bottom half no picture got sound

That may be a bad T-CON board, but more likely it's a fault in the LCD panel itself. Check whether it's under warranty before doing anything else.

I have a RCA L32HD31YX12 TV. The TV works fine for a half hour and then the screen flickers and goes black. The sound continues. If I turn the set off for a half hour, it works again for another half

You have answered your own question, someone needs to open it and find a loose plug or broken solder connection--if it reacts to being tapped on that is the issue- a physical problem inside.

Compaq Presario 1700 Laptop screen flickers and locks up

it sounds possibly that it is going into hibernation. a single press of the power button should bring it back alive.
also feel the bottom of the laptop.... if it is getting close to meltdown you need to clean the dust and dirt from the heatsinks. the fan area may appear to be clear but all the junk gets blown against copper heat sinks so you need to remove the covers to get at it.
