the TV was working then i heard a pop i knew it was the bulb because it happened 2yrs ago i will look at the door. but if it isn't that then it is the ballast? it seems a little weird that the lamp and ballast go out at the same time.

Was the tv working before you replaced the lamp? if it was then make shure you have reinstalled the new lamp and the door exactly as removed, there is a disconect switch on the door that has to close when the door is reinstalled,or sometimes the ballast may go bad at the same time.Hope tha t will help you fix it.

I have no picture. the power light and the lamp light stay on all the time. you can't turn it out unless you unplug it. could this be the lamp? it's a hitachi 60v500a 60inch projection hdtv

was the set worked on lately? And also have you ever changed the lamp? The first thing I would replace is a C958 (100uf/35v) Capacitor.

Manual for replacing lamp for 60v500a

1. Turn off the main power switch and unplug the power cord. Wait at least 30 minutes to allow the lamp to cool down before
replacing it.
2. Remove the front cover from the TV set. This is held by a snap on. Pull the front cover outwards until the quick snap on
disengages.
3. Remove the screw securing the lamp cover with a Phillips head screw driver. Remove the lamp cover.
4. Remove the two screws that hold the lamp in place. Remove the lamp unit by holding the lamp handle, then pulling outwards.
Exercise caution when removing the lamp unit to avoid injury to your fingers.
5. Replace with the new lamp.
Place the removed lamp into the empty box of the replacement lamp. Do not touch the front glass of the new lamp or its
receptacle. This may shorten the life of the lamp and reduce the picture quality.
• Push the lamp unit back to its original position.
• Tighten the screws firmly on the lamp unit. If they are loose, the TV may not operate correctly.
6. Without installing the lamp cover, the power will be off and the Lamp Indicator will flash. Be sure to install the lamp
cover by re-engaging the two clips and tighten the screws before turning the power on, otherwise it may cause unusual colors.
7. Install the front cover. Put the front cover back in and align the snap on quick connect then push inwards holding
the left and right side of the front cover until you hear a snap. Push the other snap on gently to make a good fit.
8. Plug power cord into AC outlet and turn on the main power switch.
NOTE: The lamp in this product contains Mercury. Dispose of properly in accordance with applicable environmental
laws. For Recycling and Disposal information, contact your respective governmental agencies or the

Hitachi model 60v500a.the middle of the screen is a little yello

If you Google "60v500a light engine" you will learn a few things about this set which was first sold in 2003.

There are some class action lawsuits out there for several Hitachi models made at about the same time.

Most of the time these sets develop a discolored area fairly large in the middle of the screen---a lot of them had a large red or pink oval area but other colors are possible.

This set uses a LAMP for the light source and it directs the light into the optical light engine--at the top of the engine is a 3 inch lens that the picture comes out of and is directed into the mirror which puts it on the screen.

Lots of these sets develop a "burn" inside the engine from the heat--there are a series of lens and baffles inside---even slight separation inside will change the color in some area of the picture.

I am sorry to give you bad news but I have replaced a lot of these engines under extended and when they were new mfg. warranty.

The part is no longer available from Hitachi new--the only way to get one is to remove the one in the set and have it sent out for "rebuild" and the last time I saw one the engine was over 600 dollars at the wholesale level not counting the fact that it is major labor to replace.

Find someone in your area familiar with Hitachi and this model and you will see what I am talking about.

Even though this is not good news, I think it is what your problem is.

Not sure.....Check e994 - its a pico fuse on the main board....If its blown the kit will most likely help. If its not blown the problem is elsewhere.
