In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

If your TV is in the range of 3 years or more for its age, it would be more feasible to change the set rather than spend a lot of money on it. There are many parts more than can fail due to age of usage.

COULD BE THE BULB. IS THERE A RED FLASHING LIGHT? MAYBE THE POWER BOARD. CONTACT A HONEST TV TECH. THIS IS A QUALITY TELEVISION.

Both the 50v500 and the 60v500 have this problem.

It is a bad optical light engine. At first when the sets were new and this happened the part cost 1100 and then when so many started having it they dropped it to 225 for a while.

Now the least expenisive one is about 600 wholesale--not usually worth fixing considering the replacement cost with a new set.

Also: there are several class action lawsuits pending regarding both models for this problem.

The lamp used for a light source shines into the engine through a series of lens and baffles--heat from the lamp damages the engine inside--the new replacement ones are not supposed to have this problem. The engine has a lens on top that puts the picture into the mirror which puts it on the screen.

I am sorry to give you this news but if you have a fairly large oval "reddish or pink" area it is the engine.

If you do not have the set under extended warranty I would suggest you try to get involved in the class action lawsuits. Google the full number with lawsuit or light engine after it and you should be able to find this information.

The lamp or even the ballast that powers it can look perfect and be bad.

Experts are free to chose which questions they answer, for example if this set has a red oval area in the middle of the screen it is a bad optical light engine.

Its real easy on this model when you replace the lamp for the pins on it not to line up perfectly when installed.

Look on right side for the door to remove and lamp should be behind that.

Likely a bad solder connection exists and was advanced when set go moved---you might with set not plugged in want to remove cover and with flashlight have a real good look to see if any plugs loose or off.
