Yamaha HTR-6130 PS3 dish network DVR Samsung 8500 HDTV -- the receiver has two HDMI in and one out. Hooked all the components up with HDMI cables. Video works.. sound comes out of the TV only. Read manual... says hook up with analog or digital methods. well the receiver only has two optical ins... one for the cbl and one for CD... wow only one matches with the HDMI. so i hook up the PS3 with optical and hdmi to the dTV/Cbl ins. I went into my PS3 and setup the audio to optical and the video to hdmi and i hook the DVR to the DVD hdmi and using component cables to the left and right speakers for the DVR ins. no sound comes from the speakers.

I think you have to use actual a/v red and white cables. I don't think the component cables will work for the audio unless the receiver has the actual component jacks on it. use the red and white wires from a set of a/v cables instead of the component wires.

I have hooked up my DTV box via HDMI to my Yamaha. I have hooked up my Xbox via HDMI to my Yamaha. I have Hooked up my Yamaha via HDMI to my Toshiba flat screen. I can get video from all but I am not...

It could have to do with the settings on each input device (xbox & DVR) -check their audio settings. I have a better solution for your problem though:
Since HDMI supports 7.1 ch of digital sound, I'd recommend using the optical inputs on your HTR-6130 that are made for 5.1 ch sound. I agree that you should be getting sound via HDMI, I was able to from my xbox to my 6130, but it gets cut down to 2 channel sound (good, but pales compared to true 5.1 ch sound). It believe it has to do with Dolby not being backward compatible going from 7.1 to 5.1. Anyhow, in order to get an optical-out on your xbox, you'll need connect with the a/v cables that came with the xbox, along with the HDMI cable. Depending on how old your xbox is, and which model (like an elite edition, etc), You may need to buy a special converter that will allow enough room for both an HDMI connection and the A/V connection. Trust me, I have an HTR-6130 with an xbox and a cable-provider issued box running through it. Optical is the way to go for this particular receiver since it only supports 5.1 ch sound. You can still use the HDMI ports on the receiver as a switch between your two devices, or you could choose to bypass it if you TV has more than one HDMI input port.

No sound on DVR HDMI port, but does work on other HDMI port

Not all HDMI ports support Audio or they do but only one way Audio out or Audio In. If you have an optical connection you can try that.

Trying to get the sound to work with my HD DVR and PS3 using HDMI cables

Your receiver probably doesn't support audio over HDMI - according to specs, it has just hdmi switching, but not hdmi repeating.
You have to connect PS3 via optical spdif cable to the receiver.

Yamaha HTR -6130 DTS?????

First, the sound source must also be in DTS. DTS is typically not the default audio selection on any DVDs that have that format...you'll have to select it.

Hdmi in but no analog out

the guy was wrong. the analog and digital portions of the receiver are totally separate.

according to Yamaha:

"Be sure to connect your video components in the same way you connect your video monitor to this unit. For example, if you connect your video monitor to this unit using an HDMI or COMPONENT VIDEO connection, connect your video components to this unit using
the HDMI or COMPONENT VIDEO connection."

sorry bud:-(

PS3 connection to Yamaha HTR-6130 Av Receiver

URNOTME is right. HDMI is great and all, but wish i would have spent a few more dollars on a unit that supports switching. htr-6130 does pass-through, so you have to use seperate audio connections. really there is no use running HDMI into the receiver and then into the receiver and THEN to the tv. just go straight to the tv, then run your audio either optical (best) or coaxial.

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
