When replacing the drive belt on a rear-drive lawn mower, make sure the spark plug is disconnected, remove the blade, take off any bolts for the belt cover and remove the belt. Find out how to put a drive belt on the engine pulley with help from the owner of a small engine repair shop in the video on the website given below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G0a11VtRRc
You broke your serpatine belt. Needs replacing. It's a $50ish part and easy to do if you have a diagram under the hood of how the belt fits. But if it was "rattling" for a couple of weeks take it in for crying out loud. Let the mechanic look it over to make sure your lack of vechile care didn't destroy anything under the hood.....
YOU WILL NEED A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL.AND A SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT TENSIONER TOOL TO TAKE TENSION OFF DRIVE BELT.SO YOU CAN REMOVE BELT TO GET TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP.
If it is a serpentine belt is is self adjusting. So if it is squealing then it needs replacing as it is worn out. And also possibly the tensioner needs replacing as it may not be holding sufficient tension on the belt. If it is a drive belt it more than likely still needs replacing as it will have become glazed from slipping. On a drive belt it is adjusted by loosening the mounting bracket on the A/C and moving it in a direction that tightens the belt.
Pull washer out a couple of feet and tilt it back, lifting the front. Rest against the wall. The belts are on the bottom. Remove the drain pump belt, and you'll get to the drive belt. The motor is installed on a plate and held by a spring. To install the belts easier, push motor towards the transmission pulley when installing new belts. Part numbers: 211124 for the pump belt, and 211125 for the drive belt. Set of both belts: 12112425. The set of both belts includes an instruction sheet also. Coupon "New10" takes 10% off. Good luck
Most car manufacturers recommend replacing timing belts after 60,000 miles. I have seen cars go 200,000 on a timing belt. But I wouldn't recommend that. Personally, that Max I would go, even if 99% of your driving is highway, is 80,000 miles. I'm not 100% sure about the sonata, but if it is front wheel drive and your replacing the timing belt, think about replacing the water pump at the same time. That is always good practice to remember.
timing belt and most drive belts are good for 70,000miles, i think the mechanic trying to take you for a ride, as for the drive belts inspect them if there is any cracking ware marks etc replace them but seriously if they look like new which they should with only that many miles would not need replacing.
2.0L Engines See Figures 11, 12 and 13 The
accessory drive belt for 2.0L engines has no provision for manual belt
adjustment, since these engines use an automatic belt tensioner. Drive
belt slack is taken up by the automatic tensioner. Movement of
the automatic tensioner assembly during engine operation is not a sign
of a malfunctioning tensioner. This movement is the tensioner
self-adjusting and is required to maintain constant belt tension. The belt tensioner has a belt length indicator. If the indicator marks are not between the MIN and MAX marks, the belt must be replaced.
