Need a conductive coating for a ribbon cable (proform Treadmill)

I noticed a solution to repair a worn ribbon cable on a proform treadmill. It sounds exactly like what I need. It was suggested to "apply a conductive coating" to the ends of the ribbon cable ..let dry.. trim with an exacto knife" I'd like to try this, but where do I get this kind of conductive coating, and is it an epoxy of some sort? thanks

it is an almost transparent ribbon cable that is in the console. 2 sided, that seems to suppose to control the "ON/OFF," "INCLINE" and the "Different speed settings ( either UP or Down speed" or the Numbered 'one touch keys 1-2-3 and so on.) the incline works , which on the left side, but almost everything on the right side doesn't..althought sometimes they do, like a bad connection or short.. reading the previous post I found one where someone had fixed one of the cables, in the way with the conductive coating and that was the problem.. thanks again

SOURCE: unfolding the deck on treadmill

From the owners manual:

HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE

1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand.
Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it. It may be necessary
to push the frame forward as you pull the knob to
the left. Pivot the frame downward and release the latch
knob.

2. Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands and lower
it to the floor. CAUTION: Do not grip only the plastic
foot rails or drop the frame to the floor. Bend your legs
and keep your back straight.

SOURCE: I have a Proform 770 EKG Treadmill jerks and squeaks

The drive belt was loose. I tightened up the motor just a smidge using a crow bar. That solved the problem.

SOURCE: The incline on my proform treadmill is not working

ICON CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS- INCLINE
1) Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key.
2) Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
3) Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
4) THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF THIS STEP IS SKIPPED.After completing calibration of incline, press the Stop key and then remove the safety key.

If the incline moves but you it will not operate normally nor calibrate, check the wiring from the incline sensor to the power board. If all looks normal, put it back in calibration and see if you see a blinking “- -” symbol in the incline window when you are calibrating. If not, the incline sensor is bad.

If the incline moves but only just a bit, it could be a problem as simple as the gearbox on the motor being jammed. We remove the motor from the treadmill, reconnect the wiring, and then try to run the incline motor outside the treadmill. Many times, this will unjam it if that is the problem and then reinstalling it in the treadmill will get it to work. If you have the same problem or it doesn’t run outside the machine and you can hear it try to work, you need to replace the incline motor.

If the incline motor does not move, we need to figure out if the motor is getting voltage. Use a simple multi-meter and set it to AC volts. When you put it into calibration, it tries to calibrate the directions one at a time. Measure across the white and black wires first, then measure across the white and red wires second. If the motor is getting voltage you will read 120VAC (or
thereabouts) one one of the measurements. If you have voltage but the motor won't move, you need to replace the motor.
4.
If the incline motor does not move and you have done the voltage test and you do not have any voltage present, there is a problem in the electronics board that supplies the power. If the console is powering the drive motor as normal, you can bet it is getting an incline signal and the power board needs to be replaced (some models have an integrated power board/controller) so if there is only a single board the whole board has to be replaced. It is possible the console is not giving the proper signal but we've never seen it happen in thousands of treadmills.

My treadmill won't start. It sounds like it is inclining when I insert the key but nothing lights and it is not moving.

Dear Sir:

Inside test the fuse and replace use DVOM, or reset the c.breaker

2) Adjust the reed switch see the diagram attached, clean, and tight the connector very well. Tigh the ribbon cable from keypad + connector from display board vs lower board

3) Lube the deck vs deck belt, this produce enough friction.

4) test the input motor voltage,if there are the motor need repair or replace

5) Test the output voltage from the m.motor board for the input motor voltage, if there are NOT the board is faulty.

6) Try after your fix, the software calibration for diagnose, and troubleshooting.

sincerely. God bless you

The incline is up and will not go down.

The contacts are worn on the ribbon cable that is located behind the decline button. Remove the cable by removing the retaining latch. Then you'll need to carefully apply conductive coating to the ribbon cable leads. Let it dry for 12hours. Carefully trim any excess of conductive coating on the new tracks with an exacto knife so they are nice and straight and adequately seperated. Be very careful not to cut through the ribbon tape. Just use enough pressure to trim the applied coating. When applying the conductive coating use as small an applicator as possible like a pointed q-tip or a tooth pick to keep from spilling onto the adjacent tracks. This is very tedious task.

Proform 765 EKG

If I understand correct, the treadmill will not run correct unless you have the safety key in. Well yes this is correct because once the safety key is removed the treadmill will stop. If your treadmill is running extremely fast just by turning it on, you may need a new speed sensor. www.AtlantaFitnessRepair.com

Pro-Form 540S.

My opinion is that the problem is probably a faulty ribbon cable. Proform is infamous for this. I have listed a solution below. The cost is minimal, but it's a real headache. If you are ambitious you might want to save the $300+ that it will cost for a new control panel. Others will recognize that it's just not worth the hassle. My opinion is that the contacts are worn on the ribbon cable2.gif that is located behind or near the decline button. People experiencing this problem have also reported that speed control is inoperable, stop button will not work, and start button was not functioning properly. Remove the cable by removing the retaining latch. Then you'll need to carefully apply conductive coating to the worn ribbon cable leads. This is a dual-sided ribbon cable so you'll need to apply this coating to the appropriate side for each contact.
