Wd-52628 bad lamp or bad ballast?

I bought a mitsubishi wd-52628 that came without a lamp, because they said it shattered. I bought a new lamp but I get code 34: Lamp abnormality. When I turn the tv on the lamp comes on for a second maybe 2, but then the tv shuts off with the solid red lamp light. I checked the voltage coming from the power supply to the ballast and got 325v; which should be 380v. How can you tell if the lamp is bad?

I got a RMA# from the seller I bought the lamp from. If I get similar results, do I assume the lamp is good? I have a friend who had the exact same tv, but was selling it and didn't want to "mess anything up." I asked if I could try my lamp in his tv and he said "no." I couldn't believe my ears. Now I've got this to deal with. I found a ballast on ebay for $50, so I might give that a shot if I have similar results with the next lamp.

Thanks for the reply Ecollier2012. I was beginning to think no one with this knowledge would answer.

So I used another known working lamp and I still get code 34. I'll look at power the power supply again after I get done remodeling my house. I can almost bet that will never happen, so maybe in a week or two.

Since the voltage is low coming from the power board that has to be the problem, right?

You cant - unless you have another tv to test it in. May be a ballast or the cooling fan for the lamp is not working.

Wd 62628 lamp indicator light is solid yellow / orange what needs to be done

Your lamp cover is not installed. That is what causes the LED to light amber. Remove and re-seat the lamp cover door. There is a switch it hits to tell the TV the door is shut. This is to protect you from electrocution.

After turn On get picture and sound all ok then after 2 seconds turns Off

Sounds like either your lamp is reaching the end of its lifespan or your ballast is malfunctioning.Usually lamps go out first so if you haven't replaced the lamp in the past that's probably the best place to start. You can go to discount-merchant.com for your lamp replacement

I got a replacement lamp for Mitsubishi WD-52628. In order for it to work, I have to turn it on and off a bunch of times. Sometimes it just shuts off before the picture comes on and doesn't work at all.

Hi,did you close the door cover? Reset the lamp
timer? you can do this by unpluging the set for 5 min
and plug it back(works for most sets). Check the fan
was running ok? You can clean it w an air pressure
can. If you heard clicking or like wanting to turn on the problem could be with the board that powers the lamp. The board it's called the ballast. If its not able
to provide the power to the lamp it will not turn it on and the red light will blink.

Yes this is the signal for a bad lamp. Other things can cause this. 1. Look at the new lamp. make sure it still looks good. not broken with little glass pieaces in it. 2. When you turn on the tv, put your ear to the lower back part of the tv near the middle. Listen for the start up of the color wheel (a low high pitch sound only at the start up of the motor). If this is good you will here a ticking sound only if the lamp dose not light.

Now with all this info. If the lamp lights (as seen from the back of the set) and goes out after a few seconds and you did not here the color wheel spin up, the color wheel is bad.

If you here the color wheel spin up and no ticking sound, the Ballast is bad.

The ballast part no. 939P978010

The color wheel is not avialable from Mits. You will have to replaced the light engine. It cost to much. Just buy a new tv.

My best gess is the Ballast.
