Reddy Heater 110K btu motor won't start.

If I remove the top half of the cover and spin the fan, it will light and run. It doesn't spin freely and just can't start turning on it's own.

Not spinning freely doesn't always mean the motor is bad or bushings seized. If the graphite pump impeller gets dirty or gummed up it will stick to the inside of the pump housing. It will feel just like the motor is stuck. You can remove pump housing and spin the motor, if it spins freely without the impeller installed you need to clean or clearance the impeller. If it does spin freely then you can clean the graphite impeller and inside the housing with brake parts cleaner to remove any gummy buildup that will cause it to stick. Often you will think the motor is seizing and apply a lubricant to the bushings, especially the rear, and this will creep into the impeller and gum it up. Never use an oil-based lubricant on the pump impeller. If after you clean the rotor it is still tight feeling, especially the case with a new impeller, you can sand the surface of the impeller to increase the clearance between the impeller and the pump housing. Lay fine grit sandpaper on a flat surface and massage the impeller back and forth to remove some of the surface, do this carefully and in small increments as you are increasing the clearance inside the pump and can remove too much and lose the pumping ability if your clearance is too loose. Re-install the impeller and gently check to see if the motor still spins freely as you tighten the housing. Always remember to unplug the heater from electrical power when working inside the heater and be careful with the fan blades they can be rather sharp! Hopefully, this will help someone get their heater going and not have to replace the motor!

Bearing have gone bad in the electric motor. You will have to replace the electric motor. They are expensive but still cheaper than buying a whole new heater.

115,000 btu reddy heater, 5 hrs used in sprayfoam-grinding environment. stopped working. when plugged in, only hums for a few seconds, then stops. how can i fix that?

First, remove the top cover. Inspect for a varmint nest. If clear, manually spin the fan. If it does not you either have a broken rotor that is binding or you have a bad bearing.

If it spins freely, apply power- see if the motor runs with the top cover removed.
If YES, replace the top cover. Its possible that the top is binding the fan.
If NO, the start capacitor is defective. The cap on R115 is internal and is not servicable.

Reddy heater 55,000 blower fan runs slow or not at all and then kicks off the power

Hi, first unplug the heater, then remove the top so that you can see the fan motor. Try to turn the fan by hand. It should turn fairly easily. If it doesn't, try lubing the bearings. 3-n-1 makes an oil bottle with a long spout that can reach inside the motor to the bearings. If you don't have any, try some WD-40. If that works then you can get some oil as the WD-40 will be very short term. If this doesn't help, remove the filter cover from the back of the motor. Then loosen the 6 screws that hold the other half of the filter cover to the motor but don't remove them. Now check the motor and see if it turns freely. If it does then the problem will be in the air compressor. Tilt the motor toward the fan to prevent the fins from falling out of the compressor rotor and remove the 6 screws and the filter cover from the back of the motor so that you can see the compressor rotor and look for anything that would cause it to bind up. It could be from buildup on the part you removed or behind the rotor. If none of this frees it up you will probably need a new fan motor. Let me know what you find and if you need any help finding a fan motor.

Will the fan on the reddy heater not run if the ignighter is bad? When i plug it in the fan doesn't run.Do i need to replace the motor?

The fan motor runs regardless of the igniter as it is also the fuel pump. Possibly you may need to replace the motor but try this first. Remove the top section of the heater this exposes the fan motor, try spinning the motor by hand,it should spin freely if it does not try some light oil in the front and rear bearings of the motor and turn it by hand until it frees up. You may need to do this several times!! Now that it is spinning free put the heater back together and try it out. If it does not work a new motor is in your future. Hope this works out for you.

Header just buzzes when you try to start and the blower will not turn ( reddy heater pro155 155,000bdu).

Remove the top half of the tube so that you can see the blower. Try to turn it by hand to see if it is tight. If it is tight, you may be able to oil it a little and get it to spin easier. Another thing to check would be the compressor attached to the back of the motor. There are 3 screws that hold the filter cover on. Remove the filter cover. Next, 6 screws hold the cover on the compressor. Remove that cover also. Inspect the rotor for damage and make sure the 4 fins in the rotor move freely. With the compressor cover removed try turning the fan to see if it turns easy. Be careful not to let the fins fall out of the rotor. Now put the cover back on the compressor and turn the fan again to see if there is any difference from when the cover was removed. If it doesn't turn freely once the cover is reinstalled then the problem is in the compressor and you need to figure out where it is rubbing. If it is in the motor, you will probably need a new motor.

Fan motor will not spin but when I take off the part where you adjust the air pressure the fan will spin freely

Once the plastic end cover is removed, remove the lint filter to expose the air pump rotor. You will probably find that it is shattered & is binding. Measure the thickness of the rotor & replace, then set the pump pressure. These rotors are real scarce now, so don't wait too long.

Reddy heater 40000 btu heater hums when you plug it in then stop

Check the air pump. If you are lucky the rotor is busted. If not, see if the fan spins freely with no binding. If so, the starter relay is bad, if equipped. Some heaters have external relays, others have internal relays and are not serviceable. Could also be a bad bearing. Could also be - someone sat on the heater or dropped something on it, or it fell out of the truck and the sheet metal is squashed and is against the fan blade.
