TC1100 onscreen keyboard.

I have not been able to find a download or driver on the supplied CD to repair the corrupted file. The online keyboard will not initialize and therefore I cannot start the on screen keyboard. Does anyone know of a fix?

Use a USB keyboard and do a system restore.
Use a USB keyboard to access HP.com and search for a download there.
Use a USB keyboard to backup, reformat, reinstall factory image.Takes longer, but probably best overall fix, HDD may have a few bad sectors and format will fix or avoid them. May be a great time for a 7200 RPM drive and some more RAM! 2Gb RAM and a high speed drive will breathe a bunch of life into a great tablet like the tc1100.

These drivers are compatible only for Window XP. If you are trying Windows 7 then you will have to take a chance. It may or may not work.

I would like to know how to disassemble Compaq TC1100. Disassemble keyboard from screen unit.

There is a latch that you need to pull to seperate the keyboard base from the slate tablet pc. This latch is located behind the monitor where the keyboard attaches to the monitor.

Multimedia audio controllr driver

You can try a manual Microsoft Update and choose "Custom" rather than Express and once the scan is done check and see if there's an additional hardware update that points to your Audio/Multimedia hardware.

TC1100 checkered screen

Could be a bad ram chip as video uses the system board ram for video. You will have to crack the case and swap the ram for a known good stick. Be very careful!
Unfortunately the onboard video card may be bad, usually the problem.
I could crack it and check it for you, you pay shipping. I have the RAM.
Contact me at [email protected] with "TC1100 repair" in the subject line.
I love the machine and you shouldn't have to pay a fortune to get an opinion.
I don't offer this service to any other group, machine or etc. Just the tc1000 and tc1100.
I'll answer your email and suppl contact info. I've been into several of these machines, no worries Mate.

TC1100 keyboard replacement info

If you are replacing the keyboard component (i.e. the actual keyboard) the process is straightforward. You will need jeweller screwdrivers as the srew (torque and philips are quite small):
1. remove all outside screws on the back of the keyboard
2. as per wkuk above you (thanks!) you will see 4 small covers
3. Pop the covers off with a pin they are lightly glued on
4. Remove the 4 screws (philips head)
5. Turn the keyboard so the keys face the table
6. Separate the case exposing the back of the keyboard
7. There are two screws that need to be removed that hold the keyboard in
8. Remove the tape that holds down the ribbon cables
9. Two ribbon cables attach the the keyboard. Be VERY careful and disconnext the slim one from the existing keyboard. Disconnect the second cable from the keyboard body (as the kew keyboard will plug in there.
10. Remove the keyboard and replace with the new keyboard
11. Reverse the steps above.

The real key is to be careful with the cables. Hold the entire cable firmly as these types of connectors can tear. When you initially slowly remove the cables you will gain some idea of how far the cable goes into the connectors. Although I've done lots of fixes on hardware this was my first time doing my keyboard for my TC1100 and the start to finish was 15-20 minutes. If in doubt, take a phot of the keyboard after you've removed the keyboard.

Cheers,

David

Tablet Keyboard not working

You may have a damaged (Physical) connection. If you know of someone with a tc1000 or tc1100 keyboard, try a swap to rule this in or out. The keyboards are interchangeable. I have several of both and have done this all the time.
Someone trying to "help you" close your "Laptop" could have damaged the connector at the Main board by trying to fold the tablet screen down like a laptop.
Might be a good time to clear static and reformat too. Cures a world of ills, just takes time.
Pull the battery, Pull the AC power, hold the power switch on for 30 to 40 seconds, and release.
Back up all your good data.
Try a restore, just for grins.
If no go, then do a complete reinstall of the factory image. You will need a USB keyboard, a dock with a cd drive or a USB CD drive, Restore discs (cheap from HP if yours are gone missing) and some time.
Install disc 1, follow the prompts through disc 2 and 3.
Follow on screen windows setup stuff when XP starts.
Go to "start", "all programs", "software set up" and install all the software they offer you.
Go to http://free-virus-removal.org/AVG/index.asp?=2376 and download some free antivirus for now.
Shut down the PC
Try your keyboard.
Either way you will need to go to "windows update" from tools menu in Internet explorer and install updates, service pack 2, etc.
Best of luck, I really enjoy my tc1000 and my tc1100. Wouldn't know what to do without them. I put a 120GB drive in my tc1000 then later moved it to the 1100 (must reformat) and keep many shrunken movies, Office 2007, and lots of tunes on it. I put the 40GB from the 1100 into the 1000 (must reformat- operating system differences) and all is well. I've been into 5 tc1000s and they all worked when I was done, so let me know if you need more help.
I hope this isn't too late.
