I had a Sony system that also refused to read the cleaning disc. I had experienced laser failure twice before on other equipment and hoped it hadn't happened again as the cost would be disproportionate. This also couldn't be accessed for manual cleaning and so I used a compressed airline and blew through every orifice with the drawer open and drawer closed.
I was lucky and the CD player was again able to read a disc again though a few months later it stopped working again for good. The repair cost would have been half as much again as a new system but I had the remarkable stroke of luck to find someone had put an identical model out for the garbage and so I changed the internals and have continued to enjoy my CD for the last few years, though it is again becoming temperamental.

DVD drives do from time to time get dirt or dust on the lens. This causes the disc not to read and is rejected. It's very easy to get the lens cleaned. Hi-Fi and electrical shops will sell you a product that will clean the lens. I have even seen them in Poundland or cheap stores. That should solve the problem. If it just one disc, then you will need to clean the disc. But if there is a nasty scratch, the disc will never play. It is possible to get the disc restored and some companies offer this service.

Bad laser , or scratched disc .try at first to clean the laser lens using cotton ear sticks moistened with saliva.

Dry electrolitic condensator on main power unit or short circuit on speaker cables

I have a Kenwood hi-fi system XD Series. the three disc draw won't open or play discs. The table shudders when on...can anyone please find a repairer in the adelaide district.

Remove disc from the unit.See that NO DISC is displayed on the display window.Then PRESS and HOLD the CD/DVD STOP button for 10 seconds.The video output will now be restored at the MONITOR OUT socket.

Try a lens cleaner cd, as when the lens gets misaligned or if it's quite old, it will find it harder to read a DVD as the tracks are much closer together than that of a VCD as they are cd's and their tracks are wider apart and easier to read.
