Sirs,
My model 2359, 2360 mixmaster needs help. The motor runs normally but nothing else is turning. How do I get to the gears, etc. to find the problem?
sunbeam Mixmaster will work fine until near endof mixing then stop. Also gets hot. If I turn the little dials on the side it starts again. Does it need oil?sunbeam Mixmaster will work fine until near endof mixing then stop. Also gets hot. If I turn the little dials on the side it starts again. Does it need oil?

It is the worm gears attached to the front of the motor in the housing I had the same problem on the heritage series. The parts are plastic so inevtiably they wear out.

the smell will be burning insulation on the windings of the motor probably from the brushes being too short and arcing on the armature thereby overheating the motor. suggest you take it to an appliance repair shop for quote on repairs.
so far I determined the thermal fuse had blown. I jumped around it but can get replacement. Now the motor runs full speed when turned on. I suspect the pot turned by the speed knob is bad. Having trouble locating a replacement circuit board.
The speed control on the back is simply a variable resistance potentiometer, the same thing that controls the volume on older amplifiers. The output current to the motor is supplied by the printed circuit board in the bottom of the unit. This allows gradual increases in speed to avoid over-torquing the motor on speedup. Even the poshy-posh-posh mixers do this.
At least it still works. The most common problem is the cheap plastic drive gears that strip out with a mild cookie dough, this jams the beaters together and requires burial-at-dumpster.
Zaczac, There are two probable causes for this. One is that the insulation in the motor has broken down. This is definitely an unsafe condition, and unless you are a motor repair specialist there is nothing you can do. The other cause is an accumulation of graphite around the brush holders. Fixing this would require pulling down the motor and cleaning the graphite away. This usually happens with motors that have done a lot of work. It is normal that by the time the brushes have worn so much that the dust causes shorting the motor needs to be serviced.
Read this to understand what is required to pull the motor down and to reset the speed control:
Just cleaning the motor housing out thoroughly may get the machine running. I make no guarantees though. If the motor insulation is failing the motor will remain unsafe.
