Since they do not make this product anymore, you can use Ebay as a good source for parts

Install the driver for touchpad.

It's probably a hardware defect ,you can take it to an authorised Dell service center and they can make you a quote ,in the meantime you can use a USB mouse.

set your standby setting to never

Please install touch pad drivers from www.support.dell.com by entering the service tag... that shouls automatically enable the touch pad.
