Why do some subs have a double stacked magnet

  • Anonymous Jun 05, 2012

@Dan. are you sure? then why not use just a single large magnet? besides they're stuck on N-N S-S so that the magnetism is kind of cancelled. I think there's something more to this. I've looked all over the web for an answer but haven't managed to come up with anything convincing.

Think of the magnets on the sub as a engine, more magnets like an engine means more power, that relates to stronger push/pull on the speaker gainning more travel, quicker response, tighter more stable, cleaner bass, remember though that needs a better stronger amp to take advantage of all that speaker has to offer, have fun and good luck!

The washer on my double stack won't drain or spin.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Without a complete model number, I'm guessing but usually, washers have a lid lock built in that prevents the washer from draining or spinning unless the lid is closed.

If the lid lock is defective, the washer probably won't go into spin mode.

Check yours for the lock, where it attaches and replace it. It's probably not too expensive.

Whirlpool stack washer will fill but will not progress to rest of cycle

It sounds like the lid switch is not making contact. It is a magnet located on the lid so that when you close the lid, the magnet pulls the switch closed. Make sure the magnet is still on the lid. If you washer lid will not stay open on most models, the magnet is gone because this is the same magnet that pulls the lid switch closed. If you can find where it goes, find a strong magnet and place it on the top inside rim where the lid goes when closed. Turn the machine on, let fill with water. Once this is complete and the machine should start. Take the magnet and move it around the rim until the unit starts running. If you can't get it to run, most likely the switch it's self is bad. I think you will find the magnet on the lid is gone and the machine will start running once you pass a magnet over the place where it goes. If so you will need to replace the part.

Is my amplifier giving my subs the full power they need?

no sony has like 400 rms on that amp. eventualy u will blow the subbs. buy the hifonics 1608d amp to power thees subbs connect them all positives together at amp terminal and all negative together at negitive on amp terminal. this will make it a 1 ohm load with around 1400 true rms so around 500rms each sub.this amp on ebay runns like 250 and is worth every penny

I have 3 hifonics zeus Size: 12 inch Impedance: Single 4 Ohms Peak Power Handling: 800 watts RMS Power Handling: 400 watts Sensitivity: 89.9 dB Aluminum Cast Basket American Spider For Reliable Performance...

Hello king3132,

Three 4 ohm subs can be wired parallel for a 1.34 ohm final load or series for a 12 ohm load. If you have the channels of the amp bridged, I hope that the subs are connected in series because the Sony XM-2200GTX is NOT rated for or stable at 1.34 ohms. It's only stable down to 4 ohms.

You definitely will not get the maximum potential of the subs from that amp. They can handle 400 watts RMS each (total 1,200 watts) and the amp is only capable of 500 watts RMS into 4 ohms (less at higher impedance), so each sub could only be getting a maximum of 166.6 watts RMS.

Hope this helps.

Specs for Ported Box for 2 12" MA AUDIO HK12X2 Subs

Hello joseph_delac,

MA Audio's website has the recommended box volume and port size online here. A ported enclosure needs 3.0 CuFt of internal volume and the port should be 48 sq/in and 14.5" in length. A 4X12" rectangular port would give you the recommended 48 sq/in. Using 3/4" MDF, a box 16X18X25 has an internal volume of 3.25 CuFt allowing .25 CuFt for the sub and port displacement.

Hope this helps.

Amp works but no sound from sub

Some older Pioneer radios require you to connect the Subwoofer RCA to the rear output on the back of the radio and then you have to turn on the subwoofer in the menu on the radio. What model Pioneer radio is it? Also, make sure that the RCA plugged into the amp is on the input side, not the output side.
