I have a Honda GX240 that burns oil like crazy. Rings are perfect as are the valve guides..what's the problem?

HAs the engine been tipped at all? Check the air filter for signs of oil. Is it actulally burning the oil out of the sump, or just running smokey? Blue/grey smoke = not enough air getting through. Poss blocked filters, running on choke or spark arrester caked up with carbon. White smoke = burning oil. Poss tipped or overfilled.

check the breather tube from the valve cover for a clog or even more common, an oil soaked airfilter/

One major problem is how much oil u put into it,
if you over full it ,
on the down stroke the oil will compress,
forcing the oil,between the rings,
causing it too burn.

If the engine gets turned on its side or the carburetor floods gas can get in the engine oil causing it to loose viscosity and get past the piston rings. This will result in a lot of white smoke. To fix it simply change the oil making sure to get all the old out.

My friends 2003 Cadillac is going through oil and transmission fluids like crazy it overheats also what should we do

is it burning oil or leaking, if burning you have to find out what is causing the motor to burn the oil. rings, valve guides, pistons, intake gasket, worn engine. then you can fix it. the trans is basically the same idea.

Blue smoke 96 honda prelude

Blue some is burning oil. Check your PCV valve 1st, but if this is bad, your idle would be high. If it smokes when 1st starting only, the valve guides and/or seals are bad. If it smokes while driving, the rings are worn out.

My honda accord 1998 model stopped on the way and refused to start again. No electrical problem and my Mechanic is saying compression is low and we need to ring it ie change rings. Is that a possibility...

The fact is that you need to increase compression. Hwat you need to confirm is the cause of the problem.
1. Valves not closing - several reasons for that
Valve seats worn, valve guides worn, valves bent, cam timing out.
2. The rings-depending on oil quality in use you might not see smoke beacause some oils don't burn easily.

It starts up with blue smoke until it warms i replaced tghe valve seals

Hi Leakey,
Sounds as though you still have a problem with the valve stem oil seals. Did you inspect the valve guides for wear? With a vehicle that's been around since 87, the valves have moved up and down a fair number of times and I think maybe the guides have become a little worn. As the bluish smoking happens only after start up I don't believe I'd suspect the rings, but to carry out a quick check, you can ask a friend to get in the vehicle, start up and take the RPM to around 2500 for about 20 to 30 seconds. During those seconds stand at the back of the car, watching for oil burn, then take it to about 3000 RPM and do the same. If you see oil burn then the oil scraper rings have worn, if not concentrate on the cylinder head.

I hav rx135 it smoke hevly from last 15 days what is the problem ples help

heavy smoke with a oily feel to exhaust tip is oil burning. It's time to skim bore and hone that cylinder and replace the piston and rings. Valve guides and seals also will leak oil which get sucked into cylinder and burned off. To completely eliminate excessive oil burnoff I recommend having a top end rebuild and a valve seal/guide replacement.

Exhaust smoke when warm up. smoke when throdle hard

what color is the smoke ? if it is blue white , you're burning oil , due to bad rings, worn valve guides or bad valve guide seals. if it is black, you have a carburetion problem, as it is running too rich. however , since it does it when it warms up I would suspect rings or valves.

Vtx1300, 7000 miles, burning oil, plugs look ok what do I look for next?

Assuming the engine is burning oil and not leaking it out, the most common cause is wear on the piston rings. Somewhat continuous light smoke indicates rings. A puff of smoke when starting up the engine or pulling away from a stop sign indicates worn valve guide seals.

Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?

My 95 Accord 4 cyl burns a lot of oil. Compression is good. Is the oil more likely coming through rings or valve guide seals?

It means that your piston rings are worn out or the compression chamber or sleeve is worn out..4 stroke engine has compression rings and another rings for oil only..So even though you have compression it does not mean that your oil ring is not worn out..
