One major problem is how much oil u put into it,
if you over full it ,
on the down stroke the oil will compress,
forcing the oil,between the rings,
causing it too burn.
Replace rings and valve stem seal and valves pretty inexpensive you should be good afterwards
If the engine gets turned on its side or the carburetor floods gas can get in the engine oil causing it to loose viscosity and get past the piston rings. This will result in a lot of white smoke. To fix it simply change the oil making sure to get all the old out.

HAs the engine been tipped at all? Check the air filter for signs of oil. Is it actulally burning the oil out of the sump, or just running smokey? Blue/grey smoke = not enough air getting through. Poss blocked filters, running on choke or spark arrester caked up with carbon. White smoke = burning oil. Poss tipped or overfilled.
check the breather tube from the valve cover for a clog or even more common, an oil soaked airfilter/
