I've replaced my color cartridge on my dell photo 924 printer. I used a dell brand replacement, and made sure it was the correct model number. For some reason the printer keeps giving me a "color cartridge missing" error message. I called Dell, but my warranty expired so they want to charge me just to talk. I've replaced the cartridge twice, so it is not the cartridge. I've cleaned the heads on the printer, and made sure I remove the protective tape from the cartridge. Any idea what's wrong?
Hi ,
if you are getting the msg color cartridge missing , maku sure that it is compatible with your printer , on the cartridges you will get the part no M4646/J5566 , look for those part no's and if it is giving the error msg on the LCD display of the printer , try using the old cartridge ...try the following steps
1) put the old cartridge in and then unplug the power adapter (Black box ) from the printer.
2) wait for 30 seconds and put back the power adapter and turn on the printer, and look for the msg on the printer display. if it gives the same error msg with the old as well as the new color cartridge then its an issue with the printer , and if it does not gives the error msg with the older one then its an issue with the cartridge and if you have purchase the cartridge from dell online/phone then call them back give the order no of the cartridge that u have purchased and they will replace it.
good luck..
Try going through the email customer service - I got a reply within 24 hours and it was all sorted within a week. I just had the exact same problem on the same dell 924 printer. I emailed Dell's customer service not expecting much - they sent me a new colour cartridge straight away and that solved the problem - the first cartridge must have just been a dud - I did all that cleaning the contacts stuff etc. but I was wasting my time since the cartridge itself was broken. I don't think it matters if the warranty on your printer has expired because the new cartridge still has to be replaced if they supplied a defective one. No complaints about Dell here (except maybe the ridiculous cost of the cartridges!).
No matter what you do Dell have fixed it in softwareso you cannot use anything other than their replacement! Bin it and buy a proper one ie HP etc
I dont touch Dell for any of my business requirements!
Bon chance

I had a problem when changing my ink cartridge as well, the cartridge missing error, the first time it was a faulty cartridge and I sent it back to Dell, the new cartridge also done the same thing. I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in and no longer got the error reading when I put the new cartridge back in..

Is the Ink new or a refill. I got refills and my dell gave me the same message, "ink low" but it printed the normal amount of pages. I was told when the ink is refilled it will give an error of low ink but will print fine.
Same problem I am having. Replaced 2x. Clean the contacts with alcohol, if that does not does trash the unit and get a HP where you can go anywhere for ink.I read all over that these are bad units.

I've replaced my black ink cartridge with a new one but it keeps giving me a message saying that it has a cartridge error, error #1203. I have no idea whta it means.
I keep getting an error saying black photo cartridge missing and colo cartridge missing. Somebody help. Ive cleaned the contacts on both ends, but nothing changes....
If it says the print head is shorted out, then just replace the ink cartridge which has the print head in it.
That did the trick for us.
"Missing Color Cartridge" Have tried 2 new cartridges and get the same error message. tried cleaning all contacts and the carraige ... same message. Dell of no help at all. Surprise!
This printer was "tossed in" with the purchase of my new laptop. Problem fixed when I "tossed it out!"
my new black cartridge for dell all in one photo 924 still shows empty
I installed my ink cartdriges into my 924 Dell all in one printer and it says that my ink is still low.
I've inserted both the black and white and the colour cartridge into this Dell photo all in one printer and it reads that the colour cartridge is missing. I have tried to take out the B&W & leave in the colour - nothing, I've tried to leave in the B&W and take out the colour - reads the same, I've turned it on/ off, reset. I've checked the tape was removed from the cartrideges correctly and that they are both roughly the same other than their right/left arrangments. I am basically having the same trouble.
my printer keep saying that my ink cartrides is missing when they are not missing
My printer keeps telling me to take the tape off the cartridge. I have taken off the tape and tried unplugging the unit as suggested by this site. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
left cartridge incorrect
I only replaced the color cartiridge. It says I am missing the black ink cartridge. Can't I just use the color cartridge. instead of both?
I'm having the same problem on my dell 922. The replacement cartridge is a Dell brand. I've cleaned the contacts multiple times on the printer and the cartridge. I've powered off and unplugged everything and waited a few minutes. I've also powered off and replaced them again while printer was powered off. Nothing will get rid of the "color cartridge missing" error. The only good news is that it still prints color ink !!! Unfortunately, it takes 3 or 4 extra clicks to get past all the error messages before it will actually print - very annoying. As soon as these 2 ink cartridges are used, I'm ditching the Dell printer....
I use my ink cartridges down to the last drop. I replaced by my ink cartridge (color) with a dell version, cleaned the heads, and it keeps telling me the ink is "low". it is out of warranty
Ditto.
junk
Im confused. What do you mean by"contacts". Are you talking about the cartridge itself or something else?
