Hello.
The brand of the adapter and the brand of your router do not need to be the same.
Can you see and connect to other networks ??
Can you connect to your router from other computers ?
If you have a password, you may be keying the password incorrectly.
Move your desktop closer to the router for testing purposes. The signal may be weak or there may be interference with walls, etc.
Hope this helps.
Another thought ... There may be a conflict with your firewall - turn it off temporarily.
Have you tried turning off your firewall ?
Can you see and connect to other networks ??

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem?
This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet.
something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337 for an ADSL connection.
If you are on cable, you can either get a Router similar to the one above (but for cable) http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01
or if your Cable modem has LAN ports you may just be able to use an "Access Point" to add Wireless capabilities. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1126536803676&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0367639789B22

I can see my network as well as others in the area.
I show to have a 100% signal since it is sitting on my desk in the same room.
The Belkin software doesn't seem to have a place to configure the adapter, but using the Windows configuration network, I can type in the SYS id and the correct password, it starts trying to connect, but after a few minutes says it is unable to connect but doesn;t say why.
I have another computer in another room (with a linksys adapter) and it connects just fine.
Have not tried turning off firewall yet. I'm not at the computers at the moment. Will try when I get back home.
My other computer does not have a problem connecting tho...?
