You need to have an OBII scan (fault scan) there's many things that can trigger dash lights. Have BMW or a good competent shop look at it for you. Water in fuel won't shut down car abruptly unless it's gallons of water.
A ROUND YELLOW CIRCLE LIGHT WITH LINES ON EACH SIDE MEANS BRAKE PROBLEMS FRONT BRAKES OR REAR BRAKES HAS A FAULT. NOW IF CIRCLE HAS LINES INSIDE YOUR POWER STEERING FLUID LOW NEED CHECKING.THE WARNING LIGHT WILL TURN OFF WHEN PROBLEM FIX.
Timing - engine is not sounding right or back firing. Head gasket - water and oil mixing, see inside water bottle. or open bottle. rev engine when cold, if starts spitting water out while cold like a fountain. this sounds like the brake pads may have worn down and the sensors have lit the warning light on the dash, check the brake pads and if the thickness of the pad is at about 3mm then a new set of pads and sensor will be required
