Can I hook up to the DW 100 Canon burner with my ZR200 to burn mini tapes on DVD?

No. The Canon USA web site says the Canon DW-100 has a USB terminal and works with "USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with compatible Canon camcorders only)." In other words, the Canon DW-100 burner works only with Canon's USB 2.0 camcorders. I have a Canon ZR200. The ZR200 has Firewire 400 digital video output, not USB 2.0 output. The USB port on the ZR200 is ONLY for still images. Video will not and cannot be output through the USB port on the ZR200. (Page 121 in the ZR200 manual mentions using the USB port on your camcorder for transferring still JPEG images to your computer.) You need a DVD burner with "DV Input" (also called Firewire 400 or IEEE 1394) to hook up your camcorder to burn Mini-DV tapes onto DVD. The Sony VRDMC10 Stand Alone DVD Recorder/Player has DV Input. The ZR200 camcorder did not come with a Firewire cable, but you can buy one at any electronics store or at a cheaper price online. Make sure that you get the right kind of Firewire cable, 4-pin to 4-pin or 4-pin to 6-pin, whatever the DVD burner you choose requires. (Your ZR200 has a 4-pin DV port on the camera's end.) USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with compatible Canon camcorders only)

I am thinking of buying a Connon VIXIA- HF-MA300. Will the DW-100 burn directly from the camera ?

Connect the camera to your PC.
Connect the Canon burner to your PC.
Use free software (see: http://www.MajorGeeks.com and search for "AShampoo Burning 6")
to read the files from your camera, and burn them to a blank CD/DVD disk.

Canon DVD burner DW-100 and HG10 burn issue

You can not have any MXP Files in your play list or in memory. The DW-100 Can not burn these files. Once you delete/remove the MXP Scenes from the the Camera the Burner will work fine.

Did not burn dvd

The DW-100 burns files in the same format as they were originally recorded by your camcorder. The Canon Vixia HG-21 records in AVCHD--a high-definition format--which is completely different from standard-definition DVD and which is not compatible with regular DVD players (even though the disc itself is a standard DVD-R). As it states in the manual for the camcorder, "High-definition (AVCHD) discs created using the optional DW-100 DVD Burner can be played back only with AVCHD-compatible DVD players."

The DW-100 is really more for archiving your files in their native format than for creating standard DVDs that can be played on regular DVD players. Regular (standard-definition) DVD players can't play AVCHD, although many Blu-Ray players can. Unless you use a Blu-Ray player that supports AVCHD playback, there are two solutions to your problem:

1. If you want to keep your recordings high-def, you can view them by playing them back with the DW-100, which must be connected to your camcorder via the USB cable, then from your camcorder to your TV via an HDMI cable.

2. If you want to have standard DVDs that you can play on any DVD player, either import the files to your computer and convert them to standard-definition using video-editing software, then burn them to DVD with your computer's DVD burner, or connect the analog output (component=better, composite=good) to a stand-alone DVD recorder (i.e. not the DW-100).

I've used the route of Vixia HF-10 camcorder > composite output > Panasonic DMR-ES25S DVD recorder (about $65 used on eBay) with pretty good results when I've wanted to give videos to relatives who don't have Blu-Ray players. You just have to make sure to set the camcorder 's analog (composite) output to 480i so that it formats the picture in the right aspect ratio, or else the 16:9 image will be squeezed to 4:3 instead of letterboxed.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Will the DW-100 DVD burner work with the HG-20 camcorder

Yes.

I recently purchased the DW-100 for my HG-20. Works like a charm.

Some quick gotchas though...
People complain that Canon was not 100% clear about it's use. You can only burn standard definition (i.e. "non" hi def) DVDs if that's how the camera recorded it... I never looked to see if my HG-20 is capable of the old stuff, but basically the camera is sending data to the burner and there's no real conversion going on. Some Canon models record in Standard Def others do not.

Personally, I use the burner to backup videos onto standard DVD-R (or DVD-R DL) discs. The discs are burned in a Blu-ray compatible format. (but you get 4.7 or 8GB onto a disc vs the 30GB you'd get on a Blu-ray disc - but don't complain b/c the Blu-ray discs cost a fortune.)

If you don't own a Blu-Ray player you can connect the USB b/w the "camera & burner", and then the HDMI b/w the "camera & TV" and send the video from the burner, thru the camera, and watch on a Hi Def TV. (Complex but it does work and the picture quality is great).

Hop this helps.

When connecting the dvd burner and the camcorder to a cannon fs11

I'm not 100% sure of the question your asking here but I believe that the message you're getting is because you need to have...

(A.) Power cable plugged into the DW-100 (I assume you're OK there).
(B). USB Cable connecting the DW-100 and your camcorder (OK there too)
(C.)You must ALSO have your power cable plugged into your camcorder.

Many people forget about 'C' but Canon works on the premise that offloading data can take time and drain the whole battery so you must have everything running on A/C in order to do your work.

Hope this helps.
