Hi, I got a AP-5131 with 4 antenna outputs in the back , it is the dual radio model. When it boots up I get a flashing red light leftmost and after a few secs it restarts. and it only does that. I hooked up to the console, but when it goes onto testing ram n p.o.s.t. it hangs and just restarts again. any ideas??
Greetings, It is entirely possible that it has a RAM error but again this may be part of the power spike problem. Its not unusual for RAM to be affected. I don't suppose it is connected into a power spike connector? It would be wise to invest in a good one with throwouts on all plugs and use it specifically for all your PC set up. I had two router/modems affected last year ( in summer) whenj lightning is not around one would think! But there is more lightning in summer than winter according to the Gurus's of weather.
I now have all sensitive items plugged into an expensive power board with double protection fuse/cutouts and so far all has been well.
If the unit is under any warranty I would be taking it back and just complaining that is stopped working suddenly, without explanation or intervention on your part. Let them replace it. Dont ask about spike arrestors in the same shop HAHA as they may suddenly refuse to exchange it.
Ram chips are not cheap anyway, and both chips could be damaged as well as internal componenents. I don't suppose you can smell any burn in the unit? (not always evident)
Cheers

I have a AP-5131 and cannot log in to the unit to change the ip address. The user name and password give to me in the box does not work. I have a crossover cable and thru a labtop I can get the main ap access window up but I cannot log in?
Anyway to get logged in and or a back door to change the units IP address?

Hi, nettiser and thanks for the reply. I find it awkward , too. I haven't powered the unit with a P/S, just used the respective symbol PoE injector. Haven't got a P/S to test it, unfortunately. Following the procedure to reset the unit to its manufacturer's default last night using the console cable, I made it boot into its boot firmware and gave the reset default cmd from the CLI. Immediately all Leds stopped blinking and it started over restarting once again continuously. Another thing I saw from the console , is that it starts restarting at the point where it starts testing its ram. Could it be that?? Many thanks for your time.

At a guess I would say it has been power spiked!
