Voice prompt on my streetpilot 2720 suddenly stopped working about a week ago. Only thing I can recall is that I tried unsuccessfully to update the software using webupdater. Today I updated it successfully. But voice prompt is still not working.

When I plugged the cigarette lighter speaker in and powered up the unit, the voice prompts had stopped working. I contacted Garmin and they came thru again! If you happen to change the voice (or one of your kids changes the voice) of the navigator, make sure the TTS selection is chosen.
If changing the speech was not the problem, try removing the connector on the back of the unit and putting it back in. After a couple of times doing this I got the familiar "click click" when I typed and speech was restored as well!

I had a similar problem on my vacation. the voice stopped working suddenly. in my case i could get it working again by reselecting the voice (american/british etc) in the language section. for some reason it had reset to blank.
but i still cannot get the text to speech to work.
All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also
loaded with basic voice prompts. If one of these types of voice prompts
has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting on the StreetPilot c550/580, please follow these steps:
In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon.
Tap on "Locale"
The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right,
the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the
voice.
Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names.
Do you use the plug in adapter with the speaker in the plug?
Check it, there is a small volume wheel on it, probably sent it to zero whilst unplugging or plugging it....also check if the power plug is fully seated in the GPS
My husband had the same problem with his i2 Street Pilot.
He went to the Garmin web site and downloaded the latest
updated software version. You can then chose the language options, too.
Check your voice prompts. make sure you are using either Jack or Jane. the standard voice is the same as the voice on C330 which only gives you directions.
