I have the same problem. The laptop just lights up the "Sleep" light. There is not even a BIOS POST. I have been unable to find any diagram or pictures of how to take this thing apart. Or, how to replace the RTC Battery.
Averatec's website and tech support are useless.

A lot of the screws are hidden under little rubber plugs. By the time you get it apart, there will be about 25 screws. Be careful to sort them by size and get the same size back into the right hole.A lot of the screws are hidden under little rubber plugs. By the time you get it apart, there will be about 25 screws. Ok, what you really want here is a service manual for the 7100. That would show you how to pull apart the case in order to get to the mother board (which is where the cmos battery is located).
It's a deconstruction guide for a 6200. It will be very similar to your 7100. A word of warning to be careful of course - laptops are assembled with a lot of small parts & many small screws..so take your time & make a note of any variations to the 6200 guide so you can reverse the steps when you're done with the battery.
I have the same problem with one of my 7100's I can get the screen to come on if I hold the delete key when powering on.Sometimes takes more than one try... and doesn't fix the problem. F2 will take you to the BIOS to see if it is detecting your hard drive. Hope this helps....
Im in the same boat ,totally dead and just over a year old!
