Hi, mine can read DVD-s with no problem but as soon as I put a CD in it for some reason refuses to read it no matter what I have tried the troubleshhoter for help but with no luck please could you tell me where I have gone wrong or what the problem is???
That is a faulty lens. The lens reads DVD and CD on different laser beam frequencies. To read the TOC initial track the lens must focus on the laser beam reflected by the disk.
If the lens is opaque, scratched or dirty, sometimes it can focus on DVD but not on CDs or the opposite.
Try using a cleaner disk, if that does not work buy a replacement drive. Today you can get a dual layer DVD RW for less than $30.

Buy your DVD/CD cleaner, and play it. The will clean the laser eye
of your CD. After playing the cleaner disc, play your CD. Clean your
CD disc with CD cleaning cloth.

Thanks for you reply and help and am going to either try a disk cleaner if that doesn't work will have to send it in for repair!
I understand that your DVD player can also play CD. Then, the IC that is supposed to read CD is defective. Therefore you need a technician to troubleshoot and replace the defect.
