In this case, actually it is not the Black toner that got depleted. Here the message being displayed indicate that one of the color Toner supply need to be replaced as it got depleted and currently the printer is printing in Black and white using the Black toner cartridge.

in this case, to troubleshoot these issues please try performing the following and check for the results.

* 1. Check for the level of the toner cartridges:

a) Check from the HP Toolbox application. Here are the steps to be performed from your PC:

* Access the Toolbox software.
* Select the Status tab.
* Select the Device status option.

Here you can check for the supplies status in terms of the % remaining for each toner cartridges.

b) By checking the supplies status from the printer control panel display.

On the printer display when printer is in Ready mode the supplies status can be checked from the supplies level indicator. Each toner cartridge and the Imaging drum level will be indicated by a bar which varies according to the level of the supplies present.

c) Print the supplies status page from the printer.

* On the printer control panel menu, press Menu .
* Use the (Right Arrow) button to select Reports, and then press Enter .
* Use the (Right Arrow) button to select Supplies Status, and then press Enter .

If any of the color toner cartridges and the Imaging drum have a low supply level replace them with genuine HP print cartridges.

The part numbers of the consumables are as follows:

* Black print cartridge - Q3960A
* Cyan print cartridge - Q3971A
* Magenta print cartridge - Q3973A
* Yellow print cartridge - Q3972A
* Imaging Drum - Q3964A

MY HP LaserJet 2840 has a brand new Toner cartridge. Now it won't print at all and we are getting a "OPC at end of life" prompt. What does this mean?

Imaging drum reach 20,000 (black only) or 5,000 (color), replace the image drum.

Supplies life
The life of the imaging drum depends on the number of black-only or color pages that print jobs
require. Imaging-drum life is also affected each time the device calibrates because calibrating causes the imaging drum to rotate. Imaging-drum life is measured in terms of number of rotations rather than number of pages printed.
The type and length of print jobs also affects drum life. A series of short print jobs uses more drum
life than an equivalent number of pages printed in a single large job. To extend drum life, print
multiple copies of a print job at one time rather than sending the same job to the device multiple times.
The life of a print cartridge depends on the amount of toner that print jobs require. When printing text at 5% coverage, black print cartridges last an average of 5,000 pages and cyan, magenta, and
yellow print cartridges last an average of 2,000 pages. High-capacity cyan, magenta, and yellow print cartridges last an average of 4,000 pages. (A typical business letter has 5% coverage.)

Hp 2840 was printing light in black, so I replaced the cartridge, did a clean run print from tray 1 & now it only prints 1/2 a page from top to bottom. I shook cartridge installed again turned the...

Dumb question. Did you pull the strip from the toner cartidge? OEM or aftermarket? I would try the old cartidge and see if it changes if you don't have the old cartridge anymore I would contemplate replacing the one you just purchased or taking it back to where you purchased it and get an exchange for a defective cartridge.

How can I override the calibrating mode on A HP LaserJet 2840 All-In-One printer. My black toner is out and it would not print any documents, keep saying replace toner can I override this until I purchase...

You Cannot override, as the black cartridge is required for all print functions. Both B/w and Color use the black, obviously in smaller amounts in color, but it still requires it none the less. Sorry, I know you were hoping to trick the printer somehow, but with HP printers it's not an option, especially on the Laser Printer models like yours.

HP Laserjet 2840 asked for drum replacment afther only 5300 pages but should make 20000. Prits where still perfect but now it refuses to print. Any solutions how to keep using the drum?

Check online for refill instructions and where to buy the chip to replace on the drum, most of the drums today have little chips to replace that tell the printer when they are used up, even when there's still life in them.

Replace Cathridge

The front panel tells you witch toner cartridge should you replace. If a supply memory error ocures then the cartridge should be replaced or exchanged with a new one. The imaging drum unit is also consumable. for "Joe 50" - there are 4 toner cartridges in the printer.

HP 2840

the carousel gears are out of sync - "off a tooth" and have to be realigned.  i spent 3 days last week fixing this problem - it's quite a job, to say the least.  my question - if you ever check for this answer - is: what were the circumstances when the problem first occurred?  just after replacing a toner cartridge?  if so, was it recycled cartridge?
