Hi guys i just bought a a 91 zx750 and the bike is dead

Sounds like it is a chain guard. Chain guards are cosmetic to a bicycle and do not affect the functionality of a bicycle being operational. You will probably be just fine without it. In fact, you never see a bike used for racing with a chain guard, it's just extra weight to haul around.

I do have a thick leather waistcoat full of vulcan riders patches, badges, rally badges etc with extenders on but not enough to make it fit again if ya want it...m

remove the one from the bike and compare. should be a straight swap mate

it sounds to me as though you have a bad earth at your coils

sounds like the regulitor/rectifier....or the genorater are not chargeing ...you need to check them

Is the battery dead or dying?

My thought is your battery is 99% dead. When you disconnect the load you descrive, there is 1% of the battery trying to do what you want.

Remove the battery from the bike and have it tested at a auto parts or motorcycle parts place. If you can do a hydro test on it, you can do that test. A good reading ia 1200. Put a small charger on it if you like. Im guessing it is not worth charging but try just the same. That way, when you plunk your hard earned $ down for a new battery, you will not feel bad.
