LG Volume to 100 by Itself - will NOT respond to remote

I have a 42" LG LCD 1080p television and it's great. I've only had it 6 months but today I experienced a heatlhy glitch. While watching a show a box would pop up every 5-10 minutes that said "THIS FUNCTION IS NOT AVAILABLE". I thought maybe my son was pushing the remote buttons but no one had the remote. Then out of nowhere the volume popped up and prompty climbed to 100. It is currently stuck there. The TV does not respond to it's own remote let alone my time warner cable remote. I can turn the TV on from the side panel but cannot change channels or volume level. All I get is snow and an ear piercing 100 volume level blast of noise. Is anything wrong on the inside of the TV? I called LG who were no help. Any suggestions appreciated.

Leadtech thanks for the response. Sorry about not putting the model, it's 42LB5D. LG did give me the # of a servicer who is coming over next week. Would this happen to be something they can fix that day or would they need to order parts or take the TV with them? I only ask because we have family coming for Christmas weekend and if the TV will be out of service I can throw a quick replacement on the stand.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

I have the exact same problem on my LG 42LB5D TV. Problem is, it's over a year old and has worked PERFECTLY until last night.

If I have to pay for the repairs/parts, will it be very expensive?

It's hard to diagnose without a model, but, given the problem I would say it is a 42LC7.
If it is, then, it needs a modification in the main PCB. We used to jumper coils at first, now we have to change the main PCB.
It's less than a year old, it's under warranty.
For a servicer in your area that makes house calls:

The servicer may not have the parts with him for this model. Parts shouldn't take to long to arrive.

The set should be fixed in your home.

The repair should take about five business days, If it takes longer than fifteen days, LG will probably do an exchange.

Philips 42PFL7422D/37 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Picture went out but still have sound. Any tips on how to fix it?

If the backlight of the LCD-panel does not function, (no picture) then Master and/or Slave inverter are defective. Inverter boards are screwed to both sides of the LCD display, if they have revision 1.2 boards then they will need replaced with revision 1.3 boards.

LG 42LCD less than 6 months old, picture is flashing. What could be wrong?

Hi,

If you have the input connected to the HDMi TV, there is a chance of picture getting flickered, if the resolution send by the device and the TV is incompatible....

If the receiver is set to send the signal at the frequency of 720p and the TV is set to operate at 1080p or vice verse then the picture would flicker..
In the settings in the TV,, try setting it to auto rather than 720p or 1080p, this should solve your issue..

If you were not connecting using the HDMi and if you use other, please leave me the details regarding the cable you use as a comment and ill respond you for the comment..

Lg 42" hd 1080p

This could be bad capacitors on the power supply board. My LG 42LB1DR has a known problem with this and I replaced the four bac capacitors myself and saved 5-6 hundered dollars that I was also told that it would cost to fix. I fixed for under 10 dollars and about 20 minutes. LG knows about it but they dont really want to admit it. My TV was only 26 months old when this happened. The four capacitors are made by Samxon and are 2200uf @ 10v. They are junk so even if you have the entire board replaced for say $200 its just going to happen again. They need to be replaced with a different brand.
