I own a Samsung HL-R5067W 50'' DLP. Set is about 3 years old. Recently I heard a loud pop while viewing, picture distorted, but never went blank. I turned set off. When turned on again a loud whining noise (sounds like a bad fan) occurred and lamp would not aluminate. Green lamp light began to blink on power button and about 15 seconds later the set made the electronic sound it would usually make under working conditions (as if the set is trying to turn on, but no lamp light). Green lamp light would blink for about 30 seconds then red standby/temp will light up (constant not blinking). This process re-occurs about three times then all three lights (Green Lamp Light, Red Timer Light, and Red Standby/Temp Light) blink. Manual suggested this may be a bad lamp so I replaced. This has not resolved the issue. Same exact problem exists. New lamp has never aluminated.

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.
Hi..if your lamp is on but no picture, then your lamp is good. Your problem is the DMD board (digital mirror display board) is bad. This is very common with Samsung DLP.
noise you are hearing can be the fans inside with bad bearings and or what im assuming given the info you gave.More likely the motor inside the optics engine (color wheel) is making noise..This will also cause picture problems..very expensive to repair..
