You could try using something like dragon speach type software run the cd on an external device and use a lead to go from the headphone socket to the mic input on your pc.

vista also has speech recognition software located under accessories > ease of access

I will be typing on a document when suddenly a section of the document "highlights" then disappears for good. If I can't get this to stop, I won't be able to use the machine at all. It happened once or...

What type of machine please? More info required.

However, if its a machine you can change the keyboard, why not give this a try first.

Does it happen when you type using a particular software,, say a word/document processor program or is it happening irrespective of what program you use?

Suggest you try other programs and see if it happens with any other program.

Always make it a habit to constantly SAVE your progress as you type; that way, if any glitch happens, all you need to do is simply UNDO, then continue typing and of course, remember to save your progress.

Word has taken over my computer; when I click on any program icon, Word opens

If you know when this problem started, I would recommend you use System Restore to go back to a restore point from before that time.
  1. In Windows, right-click on a program icon. Windows displays a Context menu.
  2. Choose Open With from the menu. (Don't choose Open; make sure you choose Open With.)
  3. If Windows displays another level of menu, make sure you select Choose Program. Windows displays the Open With dialog box. (See Figure 1.)
  4. In the list of available programs, select the correct program for that icon.
  5. Under the list of programs there is a check box labeled something like "Always use the Selected Program to Open this Kind of File." Select this check box.
  6. Click OK.
These steps change the file association for a single type of file-the type you right-clicked on in step 1. You will still need to check other file types to make sure they open with the proper program. If not, change the associations as described above.

When i save it is opening in notebook

I am assuming you mean "notepad". It sounds like the default program for Word files was changed to notepad instead of Word.
To change it to use Word, find a word file (one with a .doc or .docx extension), right click and under "open with" select "choose default program". Select Word and click the checkbox "always use the selected program" to change the default. Then click OK. It should change the icons to the "W" Word icon, and should open them in word from now on.
Good luck, and feel free to comment if you need more help.

I have office professional plus 2010, but all documents open in word pad not word.

Go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate File Type or Protocol with a Program > then scroll down until you find .doc and/or .docx in the list and click "Change program..." and choose either "Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler" or if that is not there "Microsoft Office 2010" and that should change what program the file type opens with.

I hope this helps!

I dont have microsoft word in my program

Hi,

You can add Word to your existing MS office by going to Control Panel->Add Remove Programs. Select the MS office Professional 2007 then click the change button. Install the Word program by clicking the dropdown arrow besides the MS Word and selecting Install on first use. If you have the MS office CD, you can run the autorun and try to install word from there.

When I type on my keyboard, it adds words by itself and completely changes my text.

The keyboard itself is not capable to insert entire words and to change others. This is done by some kind of predicting and correcting software like Typing Assistant. Try disable it. Open Start button, click on Run. Type in "msconfig" and press Enter. Go to Startup tab. Remove the checkmark beside Typing assistant or whatever you think is the program and close msconfig. Restart the PC and check typing again.

When i open it says microsoft word not responding

Remove the program from the computer, uninstall it from start -> control panel -> Uninstall programs or add or remove programs. Uninstall it.

Ones that is done, get the original cd or dvd and install it again from the cd.

It should now work normally.

My ms word documents dont open when i doudle click

OK 5HEN,

If you can open the file from within Word (File, Open, ...) it sounds like you need to Set the Vista File Association:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Select Programs.
4. Under Default Programs, select Make a file type always open in a specific program.
The Set Associations window will appear, allowing you to change what program a file type is associated with by selecting the file type and clicking the Change program button.
5. Since you are only looking to change a single file type (.DOC) right-click the ".doc" line - Microsoft Office Word - and select Properties. Under the General tab, click the Change button to select Microsoft Word program.

Microsoft word

Hi mlam1234,

What was occurring when it disappeared? Do you have any program such as Norton Ghost loaded where you can go back to a date and time prior to when it disappeared? I would suggest that. But make sure you backup any files changed during that time to a CD so you don't lose them.
