Get message that "Setup cannot find Office.en-us\OfficeMUI.msi"

Then says "Browse to a valid installation source, then click OK."

I don't know what to do - not extremely technical.

Trying to install on a brand new computer with Vista. Used to be on my old copmputer that died.

The source should be the CD is and that is what it seems to be pointing to but does not work. Keep getting the same message even if I try custom install of only one component (i.e. Excel).

For Office 2013
First unhide the hidden files in explorer then open c:/MSOCache when you open this folder it will ask for permission press ok to view. The error is because the permission is set to no in this folder, when you launch setup the first it creates this backup msocache for future installation that u dont do at first time, once you will open this folder then launch setup it will work.I have done this
Thanks

If your disc is in Drive "D". then click the browse button to the right and select "D" from the drop down list...you can tell the drive the disc is in by clicking on "My Computer" (can be found by clicking the start button) Look for the icon that has a disc on it, if office is loaded in the drive, the icon may even have something that says MS Office. That is the drive letter you have to select in the source box that is shown to you.

Hi there,
your computer is having difficulties in installing the enlish language pack for MS Office, perhaps due to the fact that the Windows Installer Software is not up to date or simply that part of the CD the file is on is not readable due to a scratch or other damage. It now is asking for another directory such as a CD to copy the file from.

To fix this, either:
-check the CD for scratches, carefully clean it.
-try installing from another CD/DVD-drive that perhaps has better read error correction capabilities,
-if installing Office from an online source and meeting this error,
download the newest Microsoft Installer Version here:
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload
and retry installing the Office Package

Good luck!

There is nothing wrong with your disk and nothing wrong with your installer. I have different copies of Office 2007 and they all do this whether I install on XP or I install on Vista, etc.

Here is how to get around your issue:
Create a folder on your desktop called "Office.en-us". Find the same folder on the CD and copy "OfficeMUISet" to the folder on your desktop.
Re-insert the CD so that the setup starts again.
When it tells you it cannot find the file and wants you to select a folder, click on DESKTOP.

It takes a minute to get started but it will install just fine.

Thank you for publishing your solution. It worked! Although I had to copy four files from the disk to the desktop folder: OfficeMUI.msi, OfficeMUI.xml, OfficeMUISet.msi, OfficeMUISet.xml.

The problem came up when I was trying to reinstall Visio Standard 2010 Academic Version.

Just install in directory other than which already have the microsoft office files installed. Try to change the path with custom settings and you'll get it installed. Nice and easy!

All the files are present in setup. It seems to get confused with older Microsoft office directory already installed!

Hi, under control pael open ad and remove programs, uninstall this application if there and reboot and install again Or try going to your C drive in windows explorer and open the programs folder and check to see if this program is there, if so you can delete directly from there; be carefull you only delete what you need to. Setup cannot find office.en-us/dwtrig20

heyy..if u encounter this problem then just go the folder and open the file whichever ur setup cannot find and then retry.for example if ur setup cannot find dwtrig20.exe, find it in the setup folder and open it..then try installing it again.in most cases, the setup will not b able to find 2 files. open the two files whenever the setup cannot find them and then install.
this will surely work icon_smile.gif

As I spent 45 minutes in chat with you, I have a vested interest in this problem. For some reason, the chat was disconnected. However, there is also no record of the chat on FixYa...

It appears that this is pirated software, and that is the reason it is not installing. Please advise the source of purchase. Thank you for using FixYa.
