When my computer was connected to the modem, fax, everything worked well. I went wireless and my daughter's computer is hooked up directly to the "operation" of things. NOW The fax machine receives a fax but will not sent. There is a dial tone...it seems to be in a telephone mode rather than a fax mode. Make sure there is a dial tone on the phone reciever. If there is not check the connections, the cord could be damaged or disconnected. If there is, check the Recieve mode.
First make sure that the fax button has been pushed and is llit...
The 2820 should have a handset. In order to use manual transmission (when you get to hear all the beeps and whistles) you will need to load the document then pick up the handset. then dial the number, when you hear the recieving fax tone then hit the start button.
The 2820 should also have a hook hold button pressing this will allow you to hear the dial tone and the numbers you dial along with the receiving fax tone. If you dont hear anything when you press this button then you may want to use the volume buttons to increase the volume.
Also remember that if you have not picked up the handset or pressed he hook/hold button the unit will use automatic mode, which is to say that all you will do is load the document, dial the number, and then press the start button.
Did you plug a phone into the phone jack and see if there is a dial tone?
Thats the first place to start.
After that let me know, and I will give you more ideas.
Sounds like a phone line issue
Same thing happened to ours here at work except it was the #3 that got stuck. It was idle for 3 weeks because no one took the time to see what was going on. Five seconds on Google and 20 seconds on fixya.com and we have a working fax machine again.
no dial tones but beeps
