I've already replaced the starter, battery, terminal posts, and alternator. It will start of a jump after charging for about ten minutes but will not start when switching the batteries out. It just do

Could be poor battery connections or bad (corroded) cables. Put a voltmeter on the battery: ideal would be over 12.6 volts, if less than 12.2 volts, recharge battery.

If you have a voltmeter, google "voltage drop test" to see how to check for high resistance to current flow. Check the positive battery cable from battery to the starter. It may help you find a poor connection.

I have a 1995 Eagle Talon and the car will not start, after just getting it back from the shop. The car would start with a jump, but need a jump if not started within 24 hours. This was advised to the...

Check the voltage on the battery by connecting a meter in voltmeter mode across the terminals, lower than 12.2 volts if it is dead. Make sure all lights (door closed etc) are off. Now put your meter into ammeter mode between the negative lead and the negative battery terminal, note the amps (should be very low). If you have any current drain remove the fuses one at a time and note any sudden drops. The fuses that results in the most current drain is the one that is draining your battery. Glove box and trunk interior lights failing to go off when they should are classic battery killers Get the car started with jump leads. When it is idling put a voltmeter again across the battery terminals the voltage should between 12.4 and 14.4 volts. Switch on all the lights heating etc and note the voltage. If it is maintained your alternator is OK. Once you have removed any electrical gremlins then it will be appropriate to check out any other issues

I put in a new battery, but the starter motor won't turn over. When try to start it everything dims. Do I need a new starter motor?

try this ? connect a jump lead to the earth/negative terminal on the battery then connect the other end of lead direct to a sutable eart point on the engine try engine mount ? then having done this try starting ? if starter work then your problem is either the batteries earth lead is fault /loose on engine or batt terminal ? make checks on all battery leads connections to starter and earth on engine ?this is reason lights go dim due to poor earth assume battery is full charged ?

hi b4 renewing starter ? try this connect a jump lead to the battery negative/earth connector then the other end of lead to a suitable earth point directon engine try starting now if it works ? then problem is the batteries earth connection lead to the engine and chassis/body ? is not good or corroded/loose but by using /bypass earth direct to engine will verify this if above works as you say jump/doner battery does not work ? also check the leads/wires connected to starters solenoid are clean/secure ? this is considering age of car ?

Although its had a new battery and alternator it will not start without jump starting off another car

hi from uk if you are connecting jump leads the correct way ? ie positive from doner battery? to positive on your battery ? then the negative from doner battery must be connected to the engine of your car at a suitable point/earth (not to the negative battery terminal) ? if your car starts ok then try this remove jump leads from your battery then just connect a jump lead from your negative /eart terminal and the other end to the engine if car starts with this ? then your problem is the vehicles earth lead from battery is either loose/broken or corroded? check its connections at battery and the point it connects to engine usually with a bolt that connects clutch housing to rear of engine ? on most cars in fact may i suggest you checkall other earth cables/leads too these are thinner and connect at car body and to engine these are common faults that affect the various sensors for engine half the time due to poor or corroded connections to body hope this helps ?

1998 ford contour start up, alternator? battery?

may i ask? when you jump start from doner car battery?? do you connect battery to battery with leads? reason for querie is the correct method is=connect leads to doner terminals on battery then on your car connect +LEAD TO YOUR BATTERY BUT THE NEGATIVE LEAD TO THE ENGINE ENSURE GOOD CONTACT ? if engine starts then ? you will have to check the earth lead from battery to engine connection it may be loose or deteriated ? doing the above test you are using doner battery power SO to check your cars battery ?and whether it is an earth connection fault? just connect 1xjump lead from your cars neg terminal on battery and the other end to the engine providing a good suplimentary earth to enable starter to function properly due to its high amps load needed if it works? check as explained above ? please update back on progress if any? good luck
