It almost sounds like the temperature sensor is in the wrong place. that or the flow is inadequate for the heater to run. if you have a sand filter, put it on 'whirlpool' or 'recirculate' and try to run the heater.

SOURCE: error code 126

This is a bad thermister or heat sensor. It mounts in your water manifold and if it goes bad no error will show. The bad sensor is telling the heater that the water is to hot and it wont let the heater fire. This is a farley inexpensive part and easy to change out. With a new one it should read the proper temp and call for heat then fire the heater. Good luck.

SOURCE: Hi I hay a Hayward H400 pool heater. It is 2

This is a water flow problem and will be the by-pass assembly in the water manifold. Or their may be an external by-pass wich will be a valve bridging the inlet and outlet pipes for the water. This valve if you have it should be 80-90% closed to force water through heater. Before you do anything be sure to check to be sure the filter and baskets are clean. Often this is the problem.

SOURCE: Pool heater shuts off after a few second

You didn't indicate your exact model. There are different versions of the H200 series. If it is milivolt then there is no electric, Must have correct milli-volt pilot generator. If it's electronic, check the air flow pressure switch on the combustion air.

It could be that your gas connection has a blockage that is preventing adequate fuel for from getting to the heater. If that is not the case, try consulting your owners manual for these pool heaters. There is an online copy at the link below.

Is it ok to install a shut off switch between the breaker and the heater. I was thinking it may be better to not have the heater powered up on standby when it does not get used very often

it is perfectly ok to install a control switch between the breaker and the unit If you make it a lockable type that is better as you can lock th switch out and work on the unit in safety
Talk with an electrician as to what switch to install

I have a Hayward H400 that shuts off at 88 degrees. What could this be?

Is this heater standalone, or is it hooked up to an external controller? If it is standalone, it sounds like you need a water temp sensor for the heater. If its hooked up to an external controller, you likely need a 10k temp sensor. What error code does the heater display when it shuts down? And what temperature are you able to read on the heater and/or external controller?

IMy heater does not turn on, I getting a "F1" code.

I looked up the manual for this heater and it doesn't document the "F1" code. For this reason I would call Haywardtechnical support at 908-355-7995 and they should be able to help you resolve this issue.

Please let me know how this works out. Thank you.

Our Hayward gas heater keeps giving us a H5 error code and then shuts off. What does this mean?

Could the Error code be HS? That is high temperature limit. Perhaps you' don't have enough flow, allowing the heater to heat the water to a temperature higher, than the thermostat setting. Make sure your bypass valve is closed, allowing full flow through the heater. Check your filter pressure differential , and skimmer baskets.
You didn't give your model number, and there are many models. You can go the Hayward website below and select your exact model number and download the manual. The manual will explain each error code.
