GE JVM1190 Microwave Oven problem. After defrosting successfully, I removed food and closed door but a buzzing sound continues. Stop/Clear does not stop this buzzing sound. All else working.

Buzzing uncommon in my experience when in theory the appliance should be switched off.

I would want the peace of mind of knowing the cause of the noise.

It is worth noting the fan of some of the more hi-tech models is automatic and will continue running for a while to keep the electronics cool after the cooking is complete...

SOURCE: Microwave won't work

F6 usually means a fault in the controller or keypad. You could try to unplug it for several minutes, then plug it back in. If it still fails, maybe you or a friend can disconnect the power cord, unplug the keypad strip internally, then plug the power cord back in and try it with the keypad still disconnected. If it does not fail again, you have a wet or shorted keypad and can dry it or order one. If it does fail again, the control board is bad. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Sorry I didn't get to answer this before the bogus answer was posted. I've been tied up and away from the PC.

SOURCE: Buzzing noise, wont work???

The magnatron is shorting, overloading the high voltage transformer. From the picture this looks like an older unit and is probably not worth a magnatron replacement.

SOURCE: Microwave oven stays on continuously and won't heat food.

Spacemakers have had problems with there magnatron, part is around 170.00. Depending on the year it is covered under a warranty however the labor is not. I have replaced 3 spacesavers for people already due to this issue. Unit runs but will not heat.

SOURCE: Microwave buzz with door closed and off

You can check the relay and related driving circuit. If there is a short in the relay driving circuit there is chance for this type of problem. or the micro processor may be defective.

Using the Auto Defrost feature on my microwave oven

How do I use the Auto Defrost feature on my microwave oven?
To use the Auto Defrost feature on your microwave oven, please do the following:
  1. Unwrap food, place on the turntable, and close the door.
  2. Touch Defrost.
  3. Select food by entering 1 for Meat, 2 for Poultry or 3 for Fish, or touch Defrost repeatedly to scroll through the food selections.
  4. Enter the weight in pounds:

Meats and Poultry can be set from 0.2 to 6.6 lb (90 g to 3 kg).
Fish can be set from 0.2 to 4.4 lb (90 g to 2 kg).

Doneness may be adjusted at this time by touching Cook Time.
  5. Touch Start. The display will count down the defrost time. When the cycle ends, "End" will appear in the display, and the end-of-cycle tones will sound, followed by reminder tones.
  6. Touch Cancel Off or open the door to clear the display and/or stop reminder tones.
The Defrost system has 3 categories: Meat, Poultry and Fish. It should not be used for food left outside the freezer more than 20 minutes and frozen ready-made food. Use the following chart as a guide.

I have a GE JVM1190 Microwave Oven. It's sounds

It's cooking when it shouldn't, but the internal cooling fan is not running, so the magnetron is overheating, which can kill it.

Then when it gets hot enough, it trips the magnetron's thermostat, interrupting all power to the microwave. When it cools, it comes back on.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

The problem is almost certainly that the power relay on your control circuit board is shorted.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more free information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

JVM1190 wont cook

You have a blown actuator. This is the device that creates the microwaves that cook the food. The cost of one of these will be as much as a new unit.

GE JVM1190 control pad

It is not your key panel, but the magnetron inside the microwave that is causing you the problem. The reason it does not short out on defrost or convection is because it is not drawing as much current through the magnetron to short out.
