Need a replacement compressor for old Ruud unit # UAMC-060JAZ

SOURCE: have a 11yr old RUUD Uaka 060jaz with the A coil frozen, solid, no air getting through. Service tech came out and charged system with minimum 3lbs of r22 but suction pressure wouldn't go above 6

Hello, typiccally with noncondensables in the system your head pressure would be alot higher. 175 is pretty low high side pressure. Usually coils will freeze due to either low airflow or low refrigersmt charge not becuase of non condensables. I would get a second opinion from a differant company.

This is a 5 ton unit. There is 12,000 btu's per ton, so you would multiply 12,000 x 5 = 60,000 btu's.

When you remove the panel to the unit it turns off the power to it. The reinstalling the panel will reconnect power and allow the unit to reset. So the cheapest and easiest thing you can try is to replace the thermostat. Make sure you see how many wires you have connected to your existing tstat and buy near the same thing. It's possible that the tstat is acting up, not allowing the unit to cool when the temp demands. And turning off power is resetting the tstat as well as the unit. It will be hard to troubleshoot with the info provided so a new tstat will be worth a shot. Hope this helps!

Hello, if the compressor is running it is possible the fan side of the capacitor has failed, inspect the capacitor for any bulging on the top of it. If the capacitor is fine then the motor may have to be replaced.

When in the cooling mode I get equal pressures and in the heating mode I get cooling pressures.
4 way valve playing up; may be coil faulty or pcb fault. Try coil - see if pulls valve open.

My 4 year old Ruud home a/c compressor stopped working. inside fan blows but compressor won't turn on...what can I do prior to calling the gas company who installed the unit...
Ruud parts warranty from factory is 5 years, the capacitor has possible gone out, it will be in the contol compartment on the out side unit and is a dual run capacitor that controls the compressor and fan motor. Recommend if capacitor is bad to replace entire capacitor. As Stated above the parts are under warranty if under five years old. To verify age the date code is in the serial number after the "F" **** week/year of manufacture. Also outside unit has independent power supply so check fuses if any and circuit breaker.

Ruud 4.5 ton unit comes on but the compressor is noisy and it does not cool house....can compressors be replaced or can you put more oil in them....where can we purchase A replacement...
First, check the age of the unit. If it's less than 5 years old, the compressor may still be under warranty. You would be responsible for the labor portion.

Replacing an A/C compressor is not simple and requires special tools and training. Almost any local competent A/C shop should be able to replace a compressor if that is the problem.

You might want to call for service first before going any farther.

Is the unit over five years old? If so it is a fair price for conpressor, parts, labor and refrigerant. Have him give you a firm price. If it is an older unit, say over 10 years, and you have the money replace the complete system
