With six obvious screws removed the back remains firmly attached to the top of the unit. The unit is just out of its one year warranty and now displays the F0 error code after a few minutes running. Negligible water is discharged in that time and the little that is collected is rusty. I'd like to check the temperature sensor but can't get access to it until figuring out how to remove the back cover.
To remove the back cover, first remove the sides: two screws at bottom of side, one halfway up the back, one inside bucket opening. Also remove four screws holding the top on. Top slides forward to release, then sides slide up about 1/2 inch and pull straight out. Hooked into the front and back. Once the sides are off, the back will come off with remaining four screws.
Testimonial: "Many thanks for your advice Steve. Perhaps you are thinking of a different model. The sides the FFAD5033R1A are a single piece that connect across the front above the bucket. The back is also one piece that wraps around the sides with an arm on each side passing under the sides of the front piece. There is a screw through each arm. There are 2 screws at the base of the back and 2 more at the top of the back behind the removeable filter. I wish that I could add photos showing the unit and the screw locations."

You can test it out by disconnecting the power cord, wait five minutes and plug it back in. If it retains the original settings you are good to go. If you are wondering before purchasing a new unit ask before you buy.
SOURCE: Help for old kenmore dehumidifier
Hello Sandy,
On mine, the filter is in the front. Behind the grill. To remove it, you have to remove the bucket first. Then you can see two tabs sticking down that say "Filter Front". You can reach your fingers up & behind it, grab the lip, and pull straight down. For me it requires more force than expected. With the filter out, put the bucket back in and turn it on. Make sure that there is air blowing out the back to verify that the fan still works. I hope this helps.

You need to determine what's "running". Here's why: There are three things that must be working to extract water. The
'coil' (a finned metal part that needs air to flow across its surface) may be filled
with dust and obstructions, so no air can move...then no water. There is a
blower motor that must move the air. If it is seized up and not blowing
air...very little or no water. The compressor creates condensation from
air moving across the coil (like the moisture than forms on an ice filled
glass on a humid day) to extract the water from the air. If it's not
working then no water.
So, if there is air blowing out of the dehumidifier the blower is working. If the air is room temp the compressor is not
working. If it's real hot air, and the humidifier keeps cycling on and
off quickly, the coil is dirty. Those are the 3 things that need to be
working.

Hey friend, thanks for your post!
It sounds like your dehumidifier needs to be professionally cleaned. What could be causing the problem is a buildup on the inside of your dehumidifier where the water drains out and it is causing the water to not drain properly. Additionally, I would check to verify that the drain hole is tightly secured with the plug. I know you stated that the bucket is not leaking but have you removed it to verify? Please comment back if further assist is needed. -Matt
