If the coffee maker remains cold, the switch or the thermal cutout inside is bad. If nothing at all happens (no light, no heat), you may have a damaged power cord. Power cords may break at the plug if people yank on the cord instead of the plug to unplug the appliance. Sometimes the cord breaks where it goes into the pot if jammed hard against the wall or otherwise bent or twisted sharply there.

If you get heat but no percolation, look for clogged plumbing, such as lime buildup or a piece of paper towel in the percolator tube.

Will not stop perculating

There is a thermostat in the bottom of the percolator that is broken. It would normally cut off the percolator heating element after the water reaches a certain temperature but it is broken. It can be replaced but it takes a little skill. There is a video on eBay.

When hot water is turned on the pipes make this vibrating sound.

A rumbling more than a vibration? If one in the same, the heating elements may have calcium build up which causes perculation like the perculator coffee pot which causes the heater to vibrate or rumble. If the elements can be removed they can be cleaned by soaking in lime away or a descaling solution. All said and done it will work like new.

I fill the resavior w/ water for a 12 cup Mr. Coffee and 2 1/2 cups evaporate while going through the motion and delivering less and less each time. I ran vinigar & water through 3 X's to no avail.

Are u sure that the water is still not in the reservior? After the partial brew, CAREFULLY check / empty the reservior for the missing water. If it's still there, then u probably have a clogged perculator hole at the bottom of the reservior.

I just figured out how to correct a slow / partial brew problem for a 4 cup Mr. Coffee that left the water in the reservior...I have been using paper towels and napkins to dry the reservior and cover after use, and apparently bits 'n pieces of paper clogged the tiny little hole at the bottom of the reservior that the hot water perculates through

Multiple vinegar/CLK flushes may eventually desolve this paper clot, but I used my vacuum cleaner with slat attachment to **** the paper clot out.

Hamilton Beach Perculator

Try these guys first for an original spare; http://www.hamiltonbeach.com/cgi-bin/main/co_disp/displ/pgname/replacements/strfnbr/20 If you get no luck from them then i would hunt around for a similar knob on an old pan lid or similar, or get any machine shop to make you one up - if you have any trouble actually fitting it, please ask again Hope this helps :)
