Not Solved 9/17/18 A 9 yr old 55 LG LCD tv I need help with. Model 55LH55-UA w/ black screen exhibiting the following: -turning on tv by remote or on the side, blue ON light comes on, screen is black.

-turning tv off/on again quickly, i get the menus, input, screen saver screens but it flickers, unwatchable. backlight LEDS are flickering. -HDMI will not work, possibly due to sensing and handshake between tv and source. - AV 1 video works, no audio. I have not disassembled the unit yet. I read there's a possible easy solution of cutting a jumper on the p/s board, JP854 or similar. It bothers me that i need to cycle the unit OFF-ON to get the flickering, else it remains black/blank. Shining a flashlight on the front of the screen when black reveals no menu.

Sounds like you have LED backlights that are going bad and the strips need replacing, its not a real easy job but if you watch some youtube vids they show how to do it.

Testimonial: "unit is still together. It will shut off (red power light) when playing with VOL, or navigating the menu. (Unit is flashing until that point.)"

I still think you have backlight issues, when you cycle it off and on it takes out the overload protection circuitry that feeds the backlights, this is why it comes on and flickers

SOURCE: Flickering blue picture

I finally got around to dismantling the TV. This is no mean task. The chassis is tethered to the rest of the set my over a dozen wiring harnesses and a few of these cannot be disconnected near the chassis but instead require removing the “right support” near the air duct and taking the shield off the lamp ballast. Once the chassis assembly is out, it is a further significant task to disassemble it to get at the various PWBs (POWER, FMT and DM) having the suspect caps. I’m sure reassembling everything will be a fun job!

I have not yet had a chance to fix and reassemble but I wanted to post this no as I’m not sure when I will get around to it.

I did find six of the fourteen known-problem caps to be visibly bulging -- both 3300s and two of the four 1000s on the PWR PWB plus two of the four 1000s on the FMT PWB (see photos below). Ironically of the four 1000s on the DM PWB, which I have heard are the most common to go bad, were bulging and I considered skipping these as the DM it is the toughest board to extricate from the chassis, however I figured I had come this far and I would just as soon replace all twelve 1000 uFs as the parts cost $0.23 and I really never want to have to do this again.

If I had to bet, the two 10V 3300uF caps on POWER board, which were actually leaking black goo, are the actual culprits, but with four of the 1000 uFs also bulging it is probable only a matter of time until they failed as well.

Here is the POWER PWB with the known-problem caps (C9A37, C9A38, C9A51, C9A52, C9A61 and C9A62) highlighted:

here's the FMT PWB with the known-problem caps (C8F19, C8F21, C8F22 and C8F27) highlighted:

and the DM PWB with the known-problem caps (C81A2, C81A3, C81B3 and C81B4) highlighted:

SOURCE: LG 42LC2DB LCD TV Flickers when Ps3 is connected via HDMI port

Make sure you have the PS3 set to the correct frequency for the TV. Many cannot accept 1080p / 24fps etc.

Try different settings.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: monitor started to flicker then went blank

I have a envision professional series and I love it, but I will get to the point.
I recent ly received a Envision EN9410e monitor, had the same problem (flickering screen then turned on, then off then on then blank). The problem is bad capacitors. There are 7 electrolytic capXon capacitors that will need to be replaced. You should see if the caps are bulging or leaking, if so replace. As known by many replace with the same capacitance and voltage. There are a few incidences that the capacitors where replaced and the problem wasn’t solved; this is because the cap problem wasn’t taken care of and damage occurred to another part of the monitor. The back light is a Royer oscillator (cool things) and it uses two smd mosfet transistors. They are on the green side of the circuit board near a big control chip (they each look like a off rectangle black square with eight pins) you need to see if there is any carbon or chard residue between the pins or burning smell from them, if there is you need to remove the transistor and do some board repair then ether put a new transistor or try the old one. No offence to the people at Envision but not smart putting the drain, gate and source so close to each other under the chip where there is such high voltage! Hope this helps.

Ive got a LG 55" LED tv model #55LA6200 it will turn on and show the LG screen then goes black after a few seconds. Audio works and i can see the screen with flashlight which part do i need.

This could be the power supply at 55 dollars or the LED back light strips that are about 80. Unless you know how to test them, it is a toss up. Most of the time it is the led strips though. http://www.shopjimmy.com/lg/55la6200-ua
