SOURCE: 2002 Nissan Frontier timing belt

Timing belts are found on the 3.3L engines, timing chains are on the 2.4L engines. The 2002 3.3L Timing belt is changed at 105K during the major service. This service can run over one thousand dollars. It is recommended to replace the belt, tensioner and idlers, cam and crank seals, water pump, and both belts when changing the timing belt. That way, you only open up the front of the engine every 105K. Why change the timing belt and have a water pump start leaking only 20K later and ruin the belt with antifreeze? Other items during the 105K are a major tune up with all the fluids changed and a lube. This does get expensive. You can break it up into several blocks of time and spread the related service items out over a few months to take some of the sting off.

SOURCE: Timing belt replacement

depends on mano instructions, recomended changes to be on the safer side around every 55,000miles, if you want get someone to check your belt, but if you can check it yoursef look for the the belt being 2 slack as turning it rore than half way with your finger tips chance it, or get someone to look at it, or look for fraid sides, and missing teath under belt if it has them change it ASAP

SOURCE: ? to Replace Timing belt on 2000 Lexus Rx300 with 57,000 miles.

If it is running perfectly I wouldn't think that you would need to replace the timing belt. You shouldn't need to replace that until 100,000-120,000 miles. I would definitely hold off until now unless you have start having some timing problems. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

On a Mazda protege 5 do I have to change the timing belt to change a bad water pump

Usually it is a good idea to replace any of the belts if you have to take them off to do repairs. Belts aren't usually expensive to buy. A timing belt is a major service item on higher mileage engines, (60,000 to 100,000 miles), so replacing it is always worth doing.

Do I need to replace the surpintine timing belt

Manufacturers recommend that belts are replaced on mileage or age (about 60,000miles or 5 years). For the cost of the belt it's worth it, if a timing belt fails it generally means major engine work and on a 1999 vehicle it may write it off!

Do i need to change my timing chain when i change my water pump on a 96 nissan maxima?

Not necessarily. You should at least consider it if you are close to a major service milestone (90k, 120k, etc.). It is a lot of work to change the timing chain (belt), but you have to do some of the work anyway to replace the water pump.

My dealer recommended a 'timing belt' change for my 2001 VW eurovan, with the 2.8 VR6 engine, at 100K miles, to the tune of about $1200 US. an independent garage i called for a second quote said that...

on that engine it is a belt newer vw's all have belts, and yes it is recomended at 100,000 miles. to do that job is a lot of work if i were to do it it be between $1,000.00 to $1,500.00

1995 Honda civic - Replaced a bad water pump, and the timing belt broke. replaced the timing belt, but the car don't start. Won't tun over. Help

Not at all unusual for the timing belt to break and cause major mechanical problems inside of your engine. A failed timing belt can totally destroy your engine due to the extremely close clearences. That's why the strongly recommend a preventative replacement of the timing belts in all Hondas and Toyotas at specified mileage frequencies between 70,000 and 120,000 miles. Change the timing belt before it destroys the engine. You may now be at a point where only the Honda Dealer or authorized garage may be able to help diagnose the problem.

No Problem

Check air filter replace gas filer spark plugs check all belts and houses, check brakes/rootrs rotate and balance tire and do wheel alignment, check thermostat flush radiator. Check timing belt recommended that it's replace at 60,000 mile. If you are doing a major service you should replace timing belt and water pump together with all the seals inside of timing area. All items that you check, replace if needed. Yeah at this mileage its a major service interval. Good Luck
