Likely a battery problem. Batteries tend to fail when they sit for a while. If your electrical guage was reading 9 - 14, with a dead battery, the alternator was working. Also, if the alternator was dead, you'd likely have noticed dimming headlights and other electrical issues.

But, you could take the battery to AutoZone and let them check it - free.

Welcome to Fixya

If the power (electricity) itself dies while you are driving then the problem is more of electrical issue. If the vehicle just looses the power to move but all lights are ok, headlight are working, horn is working etc.. then the problem would be the fuel system. Check the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay since you already replaced the filter.

Thank you for using Fixya!

My golf buggy is breaking down about 17 holes into a round the batteries are 2yr old have put on metre And each battery shows 8.2 or 8.4 so i am baffled why it should run out of power.

Fully charge the buggy. I know I'm going back to basics here.
Try removing or disconnecting the batteries **one at a time**. Give the terminals and clamps a really good clean. Possibly give them a LIGHT rub with FINE sandpaper. I find a suede shoe brush works well for this job.
Once each battery is isolated test it's voltage. An 8 volt battery should read a strong 8.4 volts when fully charged.
Depending on how much use the buggy gets, batteries do get old and drop in performance. If you're still unsure get a good battery specialist to assess each one.

reckon it depends on the golf club rules which most likely vary from club to club.

Help My Club Golf Cart was under water for a couple of days

If the batteries are not sealed, it's likely the water diluted the acid in the battery cells. It's possible a battery service store could empty the batteries of diluted acid and then refill them with fresh. That would require someone who knows what he's doing and has the right safety equipment. Long shot, but perhaps worth a try on one of them to see if it will charge and hold a charge.

Runs for weeks then won't start

check your battery terminals, wires are probably loose. If not, take battery to auto zone to have tested to see if its good and holds a charge. If thats good, take your alternator to auto zone and have them test THat to see if its good. It is 99% one of these 3 things.
