I don't know about getting a banana-bottle, but ANY doll bottle will work with the chimp. Opening his mouth is what activates the sucking/drinking sensor. I purchased a cute "magic" (looks like milk is really disappearing) bottle from Dollar Tree for...you guessed it -- $1. After you feed the chimp, he will hiccup. If you pat his back, he burps. What a cute toy!
I would suggest you try and contact Hasbro and explain what has happened and lay it on thick how upset your daughter is because her chimp is unwell! There are various glues that would probably repair the face but I would not recommend using them where a child is involved and may come into contact with.

When any battery-operated toy seizes to work 3 checks solve 90% of the problems: 1) are the battery still firmly in place. If not: secure them and try the toy again. 2) have the battery been replaced recently. If not; replace and try the toy again. 3) Does the toy rattle (more than usual) when you shake it. yes, it's really broken.
Some stores replace the toy if it's still fairly new, or a short letter/email to Hasbro stating how much your children enjoy the Furreal Friends Cuddle Chimp and how sad they are now that their new friend is "going away" could make a difference.
the chimpanzee operate in two frequency, may be that you have it in the wrong one. take the chimp. at the back in the base you will see a bottom and two choices, and also a connector in case you want to use it with a charged in an outlet. ok, move the bottom to the other frequency and try to see if this solve your problem(the chimpanzee can be operate with two different remotes.
