Re: Sanyo SR4310W mini fridge freezer plate broken

Re: Sanyo SR4310W mini fridge Was defrosting & chipping out ice and punctured freezer plate (evaporator plate?) and freon released. Can I replace this part? How much? Source it where? Or, is it so costly I'm better of buying a new one?

Ok, I know I should not have done this but I did. I was impatient with the defrosting and stabbed my Sanyo SR3770s' evaporator with my Smith and Wesson switch blade knife. A very tiny hole, made a swooshing noise and now the fridge won't get cold. Can this be repaired for a minimal price? Perhaps just replacing the evaporator plate and reinstalling some freon, maybe, hopefully?
Let me know. Basically a brand new unit, hate to see it go to the dump!

Will trying to chip away ice in the small freezer part i punctured something. How will this effect the fridge? Will the fridge still stay cool, and just the freezer part not work, or do i need to buy a...

If you've punctured a section that allows the refrigerant gas to escape, the following can happen:
1. If you switched the unit off immediately after, then the puncture can be sealed, and the unit 're-gassed'.
2. If the unit was left to run, there is a real possibility that the compressor could sieze, resulting in repair costs that would exceed replacement costs.

Chipping away ice in magic chef freezer section i punctured freon line in freezer panel can refridge still get cold

No, the fridge will not get cold any more. The coolant goes to the coils in the freezer. The fridge takes a small amount of cold air from the freezer to lower its temperature.

I am sorry to say that unless you can find a way to repair the puncture and refill the system with freon, you are going to have to buy another refrigerator.

My daughter's mini fridge has a freezer compartment. Her issue is, if she turns it up high enough so the freezer freezes, the fridge compartment also freezes everything; if she turns it down so that the...

This is a drawback of most mini-fridges. Start by defrosting everything. Then fill ice cube trays with water and keep lowering the setting until the water freezes. Just go a little lower, no more. Fridge should not freeze food. If the fridge stays closed all the time food will freeze. Also if the freezer element gets ice buildup it must be defrosted. Not automatic like home fridge. Most kids today weren't born when the last fridges that had to be defrosted were in service.

How do I defrost a Samsung Refrigerator # RS2555SW?

Take the back cover inside the freezer off and you can see the iced up coils. Use a hairdryer to melt the ice. Don't chip it off, you might puncture the coil.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Chiping ice out of freezer section with chisle and entered a "cavity" under freezer shelf...seemed like freon gas came out of it. Is the refriderator toast? It is a Magic Chef mini-freezer.

Sound like you punctured one of the molded channels in the freezer shelf that carries the refrigerant.  Probably can't be fixed.  Possibly could be replaced.  Consult a service technician if the fridge is new enough to keep.  If it does not have an auto-defrost or frost-free function it is probably too old to be worth repairing.
