  • Check Fuses
  • Check for failed capacitor or resistor.
  • Check for open solder connection
The thermal cycling of these receivers can result in a failure of the solder joints around the components that get hot. The large capacitors if failing usually show signs of bulging or electrolyte leaking.

When the unit boots up out of standby the unit does a self check to confirm all power supplies are within determined limits. components such as resistors operate near failure limits. These parts are designed to fail similar to a fuse if the circuit is over loaded/heated.

Common problem is the required ventilation is restricted by covering the top etc preventing required air flow, overheats and a safety resistor fails.

Replace resistor with same type to retain saftey features.
Look for a burnt resistor. They are usually raised off of the PC board.

Hope this helps?

ONKYO TX-SR307. Problem with volume/sound getting lower. "Setup" does not alter / resolve the issue. Please help

Hi, if this has not been resolved please try the following reset:

To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings, Thanks, JT

I have SR 307 onkyo A/V receiver home theatre system. the remote control has stopped working. i checked with a local dealer and that the remote is okay and something has wrong in the receiver,

Did you check the remote with another Onkyo system at the dealer ??. If its OK try resetting the system. Remember you will loose all your stored presets ( FM and customized settings ) and the Amp will go back to factory settings.
While in standby mode hold down the DVD button and press the Standby/On button., the display will show Clear and the Receiver will go into standby mode. Turn it on and try the remote once again.

Have Onkyo TX-NR808 receiver. Not quite 3 months old. Unit shut down when volume was turned up, but not drastic. Tried to adjust the db levels of my front speakers, in particular the center channel. As I...

The problem is the audio output ic's, one or more channels has developed a short causing the safety shutdown to engage. The only solution is take it back where it was purchased and since it is under warranty it should be repaired free of charge if not a possible exchange.

Won't turn on.standby light on,fuse under cover is good.what next? onkyo tx-sr605

The only thing to test would be to disconnect all speaker wires at the receiver then turn it back on. If it still won't turn on, it's an internal power supply issue and will need service. If it turns on, post a comment and I can walk you thru further troubleshooting. Hope this helps
