The problem might be very hard to repair if those led lights are SMT (surface mount technology) those diodes could be as small as this print. The case may be compression fit.

I have a vizio 701i-a3e. The sound works and the backlight works (light coming from the backside). The picture does not come on. Eg., the vizio start up screen does not come on, pressing the input nor menu...

I dont know how you could have a back light seen through the cabinet on the back and not see the picture. The unit uses LED backlights and just one LED can cause the power supply to sense the current change and not power the display. Replacement LED strips are about 75 USD

Samsung TV (model UN40H6203AF) 40" LED. No picture, have sound. Flashlight test can see faint menu screen. Have replaced power supply & main boards to this point. Ideas as to what to do next?

Hi Terry,

If you can see the faint picture in flash light means the power supply and the main board is working. The real culprit is the backlight. Even one bad LED in the backlight will switch off the whole array. To repair this fault the panel has to be opened and the defective LED or LEDs are to be replaced.

This is a complicated, delicate and risky job and must be attempted by an expert only. You may end up damaging the screen permanently if you have not done it before and try to DIY.

Samsung LED TV (UN39FH5000FXZA) has audio, but does not have backlight. I replaced the power supply/ LED board with no success, could this be caused by the main board or the t-con board?

Hi Matt,
The fault lies with the backlight LEDs. It is common with these sets. If you open the panel and replace the failed LEDs, or replace the panei.
Good luck.

Display station not showing outside temperature

Check battery status indicator on main weather station of remote unit. If no indication, replace battery in remote unit. If battery is good then check "channel setting" of remote unit to make sure the channel setting on remote unit matches the "channel" setting on main unit. many weather stations will take up to 3 or 4 remote units and they must use different channels to relay the remote imfo to the main weather station unit.

Will not transmit outdoor info. Batteries good- LED lights. Monitor shows indoor temp only.

There are a couple of possibilities for the failure to transmit/receive outdoor data. First, resynch the two units. This will depend on the manufacturer. For some brands, you need to take the batteries out of both the indoor and outdoor units for 10 minutes. Then put the batteries into the devices with both side by side (working inside is easier). Wait until the outdoor data is displayed. There are some weather station systems where the outdoor unit isn't weather-proof. You may need to dry the outdoor unit for several days after removing the batteries before resynching it to indoor sensor.

If the data displays properly when the outdoor unit is inside, you may have the outdoor sensor too far away from the indoor unit. (The distance will depend on the number of walls and the composition of the wall studs/siding.) Try keeping the two units closer together.

If the outdoor data isn't displayed when the two units are side by side and the reset procedure doesn't work. One device has an internal malfunction (transmitter or receiver failed). It's probably best to replace the unit. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer.

I hope this helps. For specific details on resetting the indoor and outdoor units to synch them, please add a comment with the make/model of your weather station.

I have a LP156WH2 LG display from an acer notebook and i can see the image but the led backlight does not turn on, it had a led open i replaced it for an identical one and still is not turning on, i live...

Check the supply voltage to the backlight LED's. If it's too high and thus causing the LED's to go open a new panel will just become junk when powered on, and you may have damaged the replacement panel you already tried. To check the voltage just measure it at the cable end you connect to the panel. If no voltage bad motherboard. If too high still a motherboard issue, but you might be able to regulate it with a simple solid state voltage regulator.
